The Meaning of Life, the Universe, and Everything.
This being the category of "Mods Discussion" and "Finder Mod" is a mod because it occurred to me to ask this question to get me out of doubt ... what "Finder Mod" does is highlight all the blocks, entities and even players ( according to the name or ID to look for) with a semi-transparent color cube and denoting which one is closest depending on a specific color; in a way it is like an XRay but in itself it is not because if for example, one decides to look for a diamond, the mod marks it to us but to get to this we must go through other ores that we do not see, in if we would not be avoiding other ores as do those who do use XRay ... so my question is how legal is it to have "Finder Mod" on a server?
It obviously depends on the server and gamemode your playing (on a survival server for instance being able to see ores, regardless of what type would generally be against server rules, and the ability to highlight players in a pvp gamemode would also give you a massive advantage).
I'd say the majority of servers could (and would) warn and/or ban you (temporary or otherwise, depending on the server) if you used it, there may be exceptions where servers allow more "cheaty" mods, but that'll always be stated clearly in the rules or description of the server (they're usually under "no rules" or "free for all" servers). An alternative is playing on your own server or a LAN world.
So yeah, I don't think it's "legal" and you'd probably get banned for using it, avoid it.
