Hi, I'm having a problem where when I download forge, it only downloads to the 1.12.2 version and not the 1.14.4 version. I tried placing my mods in there but they wont load onto forge. Only the four default forge mods will load. It might be that some of my mods are for the latest version and forge wont download for the latest version. another problem is that one of my mods is for 1.12.2 and it still wont load onto forge 1.12.2. I finally got a forge for 1.14.4, but it Is a .jar file and wont run on java edition of Minecraft. it seems that Minecraft only wants to run .Json files, which is really annoying. I have followed all the instructions on websites such as WikiHow, Minecraft-mods.com, and others but none will work. Anybody know how to fix?
When doing modding you'll want to make sure you have Java installed (or else Forge and other modloaders won't work, Minecraft uses it's own but not in the same way modloaders do so you need to install Java for it), then get the version of Forge from here: http://files.minecraftforge.net/maven/net/minecraftforge/forge/index_1.14.4.html and the required version installer (if 1.14.4 then go to the 1.14.4 tab, and get the installer file).
Once you have the Installer file just double click it then let it do it's thing. Once you have done that it should create a profile, mods folder and more. Obviously put the 1.14.4 Forge mods into the mods folder (if you have 1.12.2 mods the 1.14.4 ones that are similar will conflict like if I have a 1.12.2 and 1.14.4 JEI, even with the JEI 1.12.2 in the separated folder and the 1.14.4 JEI in the mods folder it gets confused, so move the 1.14.4 JEI out of the mods folder into a 1.14.4 folder or so or just rename it to JEI1.14.4.jar.disabled with .disabled after the .jar, this can happen for any modloaders whether it be Forge, Rift or Fabric so it's best to make version folders just labelled '1.12.2' to avoid conflicts or disable to avoid conflicts like these. Just note that 1.12.2 and below of Forge allows this separate folders and loading of mods inside these folder, 1.13+ of Forge doesn't and the feature doesn't apply to other modloaders like Rift or Fabric (other 1.13 & 1.14 modloaders) either so just use them to put away mods you aren't using rather than for it to read the mods inside the folder like with the 1.12.2 and below versions can. See image for what I mean).
As you can see by my installations you can tell I have Forge 1.14.4 and many other versions or installation profile of Fabric another modloader. If the Forge profile is successful you should see this under the Installations tab.
Once you have your mods in the mods folder and Forge setup your good to go.
I have tried many times to download mods from Curse Forge. IDK where they get stored. I have looked on Twitch but have not found anything. Where would you find downloaded Curse Forge Mods? Also, if a mod (such as Advanced Finders) is available on both Curse Forge and for example: Minecraft-mods.com, does that mean that Advanced Finders is safe on Minecraft-mods.com?
1.Downloads usually go to 'downloads' maybe 'temp' but usually downloads. And if you download them via the Twitch Launcher they go to a mods folder through the Twitch instance/modpack profiles, just go to the tab that shows the mods folder and you'll find them.
3.Minecraftmods is a mod repost site, I don't think it has malware in it's files like many others but it does steal mods and trick version numbers for mods that aren't updated yet. It isn't safe, Curseforge is safe as the actual developers post to it rather than just any version of the mod for say 1.12.2 or 1.14.4 that may be outdated or incorrect in the version number. Again you can find which ones do here: https://github.com/StopModReposts/Illegal-Mod-Sites/blob/master/SITES.md
