The reason I asked is that I at least got a version of them working together (in 1.14.4). Enough that some of the Optifine functions work while using mods in forge. Maybe not full-on compatibility, but enough that I'm happy while playing. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't all happy about something that someone else had already discovered...lol.
Optifine and Forge aren't compatible yet but I have heard it is coming soon, at the moment Fabric supports Optifine for all 1.14 versions since OptiFabric (a compatibility mod alongside it to get it running) has existed. Otherwise for 1.13/1.13.2 Rift also supports Optifine but without the need of a compatibility mod to get it working, Forge doesn't have Optifine (Full) support for 1.13 or 1.14.
Well, you can get versions of Optifine and Forge working together in 1.14.4. I used the latest available version of Forge at the time (28.0.49) and used the preview version of Optifine (OptiFine 1.14.4 HD U F4 pre2), extracted the Optifine to the mod version instead of installing it and placed it in my Forge mod folder. I know they're not full versions and I'm sure there's some stuff that doesn't work, but they're working enough for me to use and enjoy them. I'm thinking if these two versions can work together, then we can't be too far away...
Good to know, hadn't tried myself yet with the newer Forge 1.14.4 versions using Optifine so I'll give it a go and see how it turns out, hadn't been following it that much since I don't use Optifine unless it's for questions about it on this forum usually. The preview versions are good enough though from what I've experienced towards the Optifine preview versions prior.

What's weird is the preview version works doing it that way, but the actual Optifine release will not when trying it with the same technique. Something slightly different in the preview version vs the actual that allows it to work.
The previews are basically alphas/betas, release is the stable versions the others are experimental or unfinished. It's no different to snapshots before Pre-Releases and then the Release versions of Minecraft, they just call them Previews instead of Snapshots or Alphas/Betas. Think of it that way, it's why they aren't easily downloadable but behind another link.
