I recently got back into Minecraft after a very long hiatus (last time I played they'd only just added The End, forget what snapshot that was) and I decided to try out one of those fancy shader mods that I keep seeing in videos and stuff. I went with the BSL shader mod because I like how it looks but I'm having some issues installing it.
Simply put, every "how to install shader mods" tutorial I've read says I need to use a program called Optifine, so I went and downloaded the most recent version of Optifine... And it won't run. It gives me these weird compatibility errors during the installation process, as follows:
"Unsupported 16-Bit Application
The program of feature cannot start or run due to an incompatibility with 64-bit versions of Windows. Please contact the software vendor to ask if a 64-Bit Windows compatible version is available."
"This app can't run on your PC, to find a version of this software for your PC, contact the software manufacturer"
These errors happened to me no matter which version of Optifine I downloaded and running the programs as Administrator or in compatibility mode didn't help. The current update for Windows 10 just doesn't seem to recognise Optifine as a 64-bit compatible program, which is weird.
My first instict was to try and contact the creator of Optifine, but upon sending an email to the address that redirects from their "contact" page, my email service sent me a message saying the email address was invalid/inactive, meaning I have no real way to contact the Optifine creator.
So here I am, hoping somebody can tell me what the heck I'm supposed to do. I can't find any installation tutorials for the most recent version of Minecraft that work without using Optifine or some other launch settings, and video tutorials always seem to start with "install Optifine" so I'm kind of stuck at the first hurdle here.
Can somebody help me out? Is there any other program I can use to run a shader mod with? Or am I just not installing Optifine correctly? What's going on?
