A quick disclaimer before the post: I have not modded Minecraft before, I have just got back into Minecraft after years of not playing and want to create some mods for it, my modding experience so far is only from other games and is only data value changing so I'd be thankful if answers or help is easy to understand. Thanks in advance
So the main question I have which will tell me whether this mod is even possible is, what are the animation limits/capabilities in Minecraft? I know there is likely to be a fairly low poly limit, which I'm sure there are mods out there to aid in that, but in terms of animation complexities and fps limits how far can we push it?
For example, would it be possible to change dolphins to have smooth curving animations on their tails as they swim? If it is possible, I imagine it's not easy and likely not worth the effort as I probably would have seen it by now, but if it is possible I do have some ideas that I'd like to try. Of course, an animation like the dolphin tail would require a new model, but I have no plans to try that if it is possible because it's not what I want to try and is just there to serve as a demonstration of my question. Off the top of my head, the only swaying or curving animation would be sea weed but that's more of moving image rather than a model and is, of course, quite basic and slow.
Any upper limits on vanilla animation as well as poly limits would be greatly appreciated, thank you for your time on reading this!
