Heyo. So I finally delved into the world of modding a few days ago -- got a few cool ones installed and working like WorldEdit, and i'm looking to spruce up my little adventure map with some fun stuff.
I'm looking for functioning mods that'd let me:
- Create a shopkeeper (Mapmaker's Gadgets had something like this, but I couldn't get it working -- wrong version of minecraft, or something)
- Disable all natural spawns while still allowing triggered monster spawns (think hitting a tripwire which activates an ambush)
- Trigger monster spawns, preferably with redstone, and have those monsters not despawn until killed
- Adjust weapon stats
Any help locating mods like these would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
For stuff like you stated I'd say maybe (depending on the version of Minecraft your playing modded that is). I'd say either Custom NPCs, VillageBox or some in that realm. That would cover the shopkeeper I'd say for trades or conversations or something maybe.
Natural spawns to trigger monster spawning... Hmm. Not sure. There is likely mods for that I can't think of any off the top of my head so others would have to respond with knowledge of mods that do that.
You could try commands I guess or modded mob spawners I guess but that's about all I can think of really right now.
Adjustments of weapon stats... As in you can manipulate the stats for them yourself? Not sure about how you'd do that, some mod or third party tool but I don't know for sure unfortunately.

There are many tutorials on YouTube for editing weapon stats and giving effects to the player when held using commands. Also for getting rid of mobs spawning I believe its " /gamerule domobspawning false " and just keep the world in normal and you should be able to have any mobs spawn from tripwires and stuff. (This won't kill any mobs that are already spawned for that use /kill @e)
Oh wow. I didn't know about gamerules. These are lovely! domobspawning will do nicely. I wish there was one that disallowed the player from destroying blocks entirely, though.
As a side note, I've been trying to figure out where I've been going wrong with Mapmaker's Gadgets, and how Forge works in general.
I'm getting this prompt when I start up through the Forge (which runs via the Twitch client):
I noticed that the most up to date Minecraft version is 1.3, and Forge is running on 1.10. Is there any way to get this mod to work currently?
The Twitch client eh, so you have a 1.12.2 setup then or a 1.12 setup of a profile? What it states in the prompt is that Mapmaker's Gadgets is after a 1.12 not 1.12.2 version of Forge/Minecraft. That can slip people up but the .2 is a different version and makes a big difference. It's one of the things that makes Minecraft modding 'interesting' compared to other say Steam Workshop supported games in comparison.
Also Minecraft 1.13.2 is the latest official version of the game if you don't count snapshots or anything. Forge 1.13.2 is in public beta stage but not stable or ready enough/not enough mods to be considered worthy to jump to yet and not recommended unless your a person that prefers testing/reporting the situation to mod devs/the Forge team in my opinion. Soon but not yet. It's recommend for players to use 1.12.2 for Forge and mods. Or Rift Modloader for 1.13/1.13.2 for mods if you wanted but it has it's moments of things not working but not as unstable as Forge 1.13.2 due to it being more public recently while Rift has been out for months publicly and I've followed it's development.
Forgot about the gamerules, commands aren't my expertise so glad someone knows about that.

Interesting. Still kinda confused about all this, but I think I'm understanding it a bit more now? One way or another, I'm unsure of how to change my Minecraft to the correct version needed for Mapmaker's Gadgets. How do I update/downgrade from my current version to the version it wants?
Understood, to be honest I missed that it said '1.10.2' in the image there that it stated you were trying to run it for XD. I checked Mapmaker's Gadgets myself where Twitch gets it's mods to see what it requires and it can work for 1.12 or 1.12.2.
To get another version setup for the Twitch Client besides your 1.10.2 one, you create a new profile. Then select the 1.12.2 version compared to the 1.10.2 version it is selecting by default I assume. Get the Forge version recommended or the latest and then let it create itself, from there just select the mapmaker's gadgets and any other mods you wanted from the 'get more content' button and you should be ok. You can manually put mods into profiles if you want, but if you want to know what supports the version properly it's best to stick with the 'get more content' button and select mods that way, but with some mods in alpha or otherwise that don't show up you'd likely want to put them into that profile manually since Twitch doesn't really want to show Alpha state projects typically anyways.
I'd try to give an image but my Twitch Client it taking it's time to recognise all the modpacks I have in it right now.
Just 'create a new profile', select 1.12.2 instead of 1.10.2 where you see you can select versions from the dropdown list. Then search for mapmaker's gadgets in the 'get more content' button and search in the search bar. Get other mods you might like to try out or can assist if you'd like, then go back and select the play button and see what happens.

Awesome! I managed to get Mapmaker's Toolkit working, and was also able to port my map over to the new profile without any problems. Being able to create profiles for different versions like that is incredibly nice. Must be wonderful for playing older mods. I was expecting a tedious process that involved separate installs and other things like outdated Java before being able to get back to work... this really opens up a new realm of possibility for me.
Congrats :), yeah profiles work great for new and old versions, I used it a lot before a Windows 10 issue stopped me using Twitch (the sort of odd detection of dodgey software like Windows 10 issue you hate to see, but it works fine now, just did awkward back then for me) so I moved to MultiMC but for the time I've done that for past versions it works great. I had no java outdated issues with it surprisingly. Twitch and MultiMC have never had me work with older java to get these versions going. You just set them up (some things do need to be consider sometimes but for the most part besides say 1.2.5 which and before which I have no experience with mods anything from 1.4.7+ for older versions of Minecraft work fine since less modloader/forge situations or stuff I'm unfamiliar with need to be considered unless it's for 1.2.5 or earlier. Beta 1.7.3 is tricky but otherwise they work fine. 1.6.4 not sure but it's worse with Vanilla. But 1.4.7, 1.5.2, 1.7.10 and anything 1.8 to 1.12.2. works fine from my experiences at least or the mods I used with those versions. They may or may not have memory needs or I just am not used to playing them so differently compared to the requirements of Minecraft now anyways.
Otherwise though, you'd better try yourself since I haven't used older versions in a while and it may be different from when I tried which was around 2016 (for Twitch Client older version profiles and I made too many back then for specific video recording reasons/forgot to delete them XD) so give it a go if you can. But yeah congrats, your very welcome.
