I just installed some modpacks via the Twitch application (easy to manage and all). I've been playing without any problems with many modpacks (even with shaders !), with little to no lag. But recently some of the modpacks I installed began to have the infamous lag spike of death (I think it's that ?).
There's no reason for these spikes, and I am constantly over 60 fps. The thing is, when installed the modpack on my normal minecraft install, everything's fine.
Things I've tried so far:
- Updated drivers
- Boost up ram (I can allocate a lot, but the most it used was 3G)
- Java arguments (tried so many)
- Tweaked options (and optifine options)
- BetterFPS mod
- Removing some mods
- Removing the config files
It is really frustrating, considering it is a problem linked with the Twitch minecraft install.
So if any of you have any ideas on why it is doing that, I would really like a hand
First, the twitch app does not run/play MC. The Twitch app is used to make Profiles that the Mojang launcher uses to run MC.
That said, any settings for the Profile are made through the Twitch app (like memory allocated). You have two options on the Twitch app for which Mojang launcher is used to play MC:
Open Settings, click Minecraft. Scroll down to Launch Method. The options are Native Launcher and Jar launcher.
-Native launcher is the current Mojang launcher, using the Java-lite installed with the Mojang launcher (1.8_25).
-Jar launcher is the older Mojang launcher, and selecting this option allows you to specify the Java version.
Try the other launcher option from what your using to see if that helps. Also, you didn't state if you've tried updating Java.
Looks like using the Jar launcher did it (for some reason), I left it run by itself and for now no real lag spikes. I'm still gonna wait a bit in case it is false positive
@proedle to increase RAM go to the modpack's settings dropdown where you can open the folder and a bunch of other things. Go to profile options, then you will see the RAM setting among Modloader version installed and more. If it has a default setting checkbox untick it and change the RAM to whatever you want just make sure to not use up too much if your system can't handle it.

I had the same problem and I found the information on this thread useful but for some reason I physically cant switch from the Jar launcher. I would click the native launcher and the bubble would be highlighted, then I would leave the mods tab and it would reset back to the jar launcher. I think this may be a problem with my version setting as the only option is 1.6.0.65 (64 bit) and I can't change it from that. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

i'm sorry, but i have the same problem and I think it's the ram, that is my issue. could you explain ho to boost it up?

ok.... do I change all this in the Twitch or the Java Minecraft?
Sigh.... this must not be my day....
The Twitch app doesnt give me settings for Minecraft neither does the Java game play.... I cant seem to change from the jar to the Minecraft launcher.
I guess I need to duplicate the game in my Minecraft launcher as stand alone.

@tkLanad
To change between the Jar and Native launcher you need to go to Twitch (the launcher's) settings to change it.
For RAM modpack changes go to the profile options of that modpack.
