This is a very simple issue. I just want to create a roof for my survival mode house using cobblestone stairs, that's it. Running Minecraft 1.12.2 with the latest build of Forge. Forge will not accept two of the mods for rotating I found, and the entire thing won't load with the older Rotate Blocks mod. There are no other rotate mods I have found.
I am trying to place the stairs for my roof and they are getting placed upside-down, or a weird outside corner stair thing is being automatically created. I would love to turn that auto-modding of the stairs off and on with a hot key to help prevent that.
Are there any Minecraft 1.12.2 with the latest Forge build compatible mods out there for rotating the blocks? If not are there commands I could use to rotate a block, and how would I do so? Also is there any way to place the block, some trick as to where I need to put my cursor or something?
I appreciate your help. I have to say I am very sad to see so few mods being created and updated for Minecraft 1.12.2. I guess I came to the game a little late.
I haven't tested this in 1.12.2, but I remember that in 1.7.2, block rotation was affected by where you were pointing when you placed the block, and/or also where you were standing relative to the spot you're aiming at and the adjacent stairs.
My memory is a little foggy but I think that's how it's done.
They might've changed it since then without me knowing, but it's worth a shot. Try experimenting, and sorry if my explanation was confusing.

With vanilla the stairs will place "right side up" when aiming on the top face or lower half of a side face of adjacent block when placing, and upside down when aiming at a bottom face or upper half of a side face of adjacent block when placing. There is also a limit to how far to the side of the adjacent block you can be before the new stair will be placed at a right angle to you instead of facing you as usual.
It takes a bit of precision with positioning yourself and your cursor. As for the auto-joining I don't believe that can be turned off in vanilla but I could be wrong. That can take a little trial and error as how they join depends on the orientation of both blocks and which was placed first.
This is all from my personal experience using stair blocks, often for roofs as you are so it is possible I'm not 100% accurate on exactly how they work.
I am reading through the official Minecraft guidebooks, and saw that it also depends on placing a block then your stair. I think that is what I missed. I will play with this and see what happens.

Hey thank you, both of you.
