I don't know where to post this so someone please tell me where to go.
I bought my son a new laptop for Christmas with Windows 10. He installed Minecraft, I paid to unlock it, and he then asked me to help him put the Galacticraft mod on it.
So.... I followed a YouTube tutorial and installed Forge 1.12.2 and the 3 mods needed for Galacticraft. I had to research a bit because I didn't have a .minecraft folder. I was able to download an executable launcher file that I was able to then build a .minecraft folder from, which then allowed me to complete the Forge installation. While trying to log in to use it for the first time, I discovered that I never downloaded the full game, and only had the demo version (which might explain why I couldn't find the .minecraft version?) So I downloaded it from my Microsoft Store confirmation email, and it installed itself.
But.... When I open Forge, it only lets me play the demo version. And when I launch Minecraft from the icon created by the installation it takes me to the version I purchased, which shows v1.2.10 in the bottom right corner. And I can't find anything about that version other than something saying it's the pocket edition. Can someone tell me what's going on and what I'm doing wrong?
I'm adding a picture showing it launched from Forge and another from Minecraft shortcut.
The Windows 10 version of Minecraft, is not the same as that of the normal Minecraft.
Windows 10 version has addons you can add to minecraft (almost the same as that of Pocket edition)
It's kinda the same as Pocket edition. If i'm correct you need to buy the full game of minecraft on the website to play with mods.
Hope this helped you a bit.

Thanks Wxam. I was afraid it was something like that. So basically, instead of being able to use the normal mods, I would have to buy mods and add-ons from the store similar to Google Play or the Microsoft Store correct? Or are you saying that the version I bought is not the full version, and that I can get the full version instead that will still work with Windows 10?
This version in the picture is different than what I already purchased?
Yup, you can buy addons from the Microsoft store it's like in game purchases just like you have with phone apps.
The windows 10version of Minecraft is somewhat a Pocket edition version.
I don't know if you can refund it and buy the original one (the one from the picture) because that includes the Windows 10 version aswell.
and it would be a waste of money to have it twice.
If you buy the full version of Minecraft (the one from the picture) you can install mods.
when you decide to buy the full version and need help with setting the mods up you can message me (or look on youtube
Hope this helps
