ok, probably beginner questions but would greatly appreciate the help.
My 7 year old loves minecraft on Xbox One and he now has the PC version because he wanted to be able to use mods.
I have the latest recommended version of Forge (1.12.2 - 14.23.1.2555) and the latest Minecraft version (1.12.2).
I have installed a few mods (Journey Map, CTM, and Chisel) but a lot of the mods my kid wants the most won't work, even if sometimes the mod is supposedly for Minecraft version 1.12.2
The mods he wants and don't work are Titans, Techguns, and Youtuber's Lucky Blocks.
I would suggest using another launcher to easily make your own modpacks. Twitch and MultiMC are popular. You can easily make Forge Profiles and add mods, much easier than using the Mojang Launcher.
As for your problem, make sure to put the mods in the mods folder under the .minecraft folder. The easiest way to make this folder is make a world with just Forge first. Forge will create the additional folders needed.

oh also dowload mods from curse or this forum or the official page.
other pages like 9minecraft may contain malware and nonexistent versions
true, but I use 9minecraft often and I trust it. I use this website (minecraft forum), 9minecraft, and curse forge mainly, but I also trust planet minecraft, though planet minecraft doesn't have as much content.

please stop using 9minecraft they rehost mods and earn money of the modders work so you are discouraging modders to continue their work using these sites

maybe they do maybe they don't......thats not my problem. all I know is that I like mods, and I can safely download mods from there without getting viruses or anything. if you don't like 9minecraft then don't use it, but don't tell others what to do just because you disagree with them

as for your problem, make sure you also install any core mods that the others might need.....for instance: tech guns requires cofhcore and cofhLib
