This is my first time trying to download mods for minecraft so i did what any person would do, I youtubed it. I found about 5 different videos and watched them all and im still very confused,
Here is why im confused
-Some of them were created 4 months ago when 1.9 just came out
-They all listed different websites, and each website had multiple download buttons.
-Some were just hard to understand what they were saying
-Some already had it downloaded and would open the application and start talking about it
Im not the best at this stuff so try being as descriptive as possible when answering so i dont get too confused.
This is the site for Forge. It's not released for 1.9 yet, though. If you see a page offering a download for it somewhere else and it doesn't go back to this site, it's probably not real.
well I updated now I see all these mods for 1.7, 1.8
Really guys you've had over a year to update to the snapshots.....
You mean Forge? There's no point, within a few weeks Mojang would have released a new snapshot which could completely change the way something is done. I think snapshots are used to start building mappings though. But honestly, the Forge team knows what they're doing; if they don't think Forge should update yet, then that's fine.

Please don't PM me asking for help, I will just redirect you to the appropriate forum, where there are others who are far more skilled than me.

They could say that for the next 52 weeks........it sounds like mod developers are being difficult now, and not the Mojang developers.
Why not appreciate the work that's being done for you for free in their spare time instead of complaining when you know literally nothing about how this whole thing works?

Too true. I remember back in the days when there was just Mod Loader (Hosted by Risugami, only 1 guy)...
Besides who cares about forge not updating right away? We still need modders to update their mods. And they have lives, jobs, careers, university, etc.
They aren't your slaves, they aren't robots, so stop pushing them further on.
Would you guys like to have 5 times the homework? All you do is study, so you should be able to!

52 weeks, and how many changes have been made to the game's code in those 52 weeks? Every single change affects Forge in some way, varying in how much it does. It isn't smart to develop mods on bleeding-edge builds when code can change drastically between builds.

Snapshots are not official versions, so don't think of them as official versions. Snapshots are unstable, experimental, bleeding-edge, in-development versions intended for Mojang to iron out all the bugs, not for Forge and modders to get a head start.

To answer your question as to why there are sites claiming to have mods for 1.9 when forge hasn't been updated yet, you'll want to read this. In short, avoid those sites. Also, if you see multiple download buttons, that's usually a sign of a site that has malware of some sort (or else those download buttons are advertisements that will install malware).
Most mods have not been updated to 1.9 yet, and forge for sure hasn't (although they're internally working on it, nothing's stable yet). You'll want to stick with 1.8, or possibly 1.8.8. Some older mods are only available for 1.7.10. I recommend sticking to these forums when looking for single mods; in some cases YouTube videos are will have out of date versions or worse. There are other sites that list mods and use real links, but other sites are still malicious.
Modding is a bit complex to get into at first. I recommend using a mod pack, for instance Feed the Beast (and I recommend that one specifically since they actually asked modders for permission in redistributing their mods). They simplify installation and configuration and you can get a bunch of mods together that have been tested before.

Indeed, which is why I still play on 1.7.10 for the most part. Too much content available for that version and very little of it by comparison on 1.8.9.
Many of the mod makers who have produced content for 1.7.10 have flat out refused to update their mods to 1.8 or higher simply because of the amount of work it would take to revamp their work to the next MC-version, and I dont blame them.
This has unfortunately created a gap of content which may get filled by other developers who create similar mods in their stead for the newer version, but many of these same creators might be hesitant fill in certain gapsin case they're accused of copying or being unoriginal with their ideas.
E.G. Bringing in a Buildcraft/Minefactory clone to 1.8
Thus a content gap for certain mods might remain for quite some time.

I don't think there's still forge for 1.9
Wait until they update it (it's unofficial)
would it work though if i were to download a later version?
Eh? What do you mean? Forge 1.8.9 on Minecraft 1.9?
That's like going to school on pajamas.
It won't work at all (specially with 1.9's big changes).

XD
forge isnt gonna be out for 1.9 for like 5+ months
so which forge do i download
so is everyone stuck without mods?
No, people are just sticking with the old version of Minecraft for now. Just download the Recommended for 1.8.
That's... not true at all... MCP is already released for 1.9 and Forge will be ported within the next week or two. You can view the progress here.

Well, sooner or later, modders will have to update.
And if they had updated to 1.8, it would've been great as it's been out for years..
Hopefully this version pushes them a little to update, because if they don't, by when they do, the game will be too different :/
