I got a (slightly) better laptop for christmas, so im looking for more mods to play with on Minecraft, unfortunately my experience doesnt extend far past Tinker's Construct and Ancient Warfare 2, so I am looking for some suggestions. I've heard a lot about "automation" mods, but there are so many different kinds that I dont know which to use. I have also looked into modpacks like Resonant Rise 3, but my comp doesnt like handling 200+ mods at once and idk how to narrow them down to the necessities

Welcome to the party bro!!! I am a pack maker! I will guide you through the wonderful land of the MODS!! What do you like to do? Do you want to have lots of cool machines and automation and even go to the moon?! Or would you like to go on adventure and slay mythical creatures and control the elements at your will?! There are some things that you can get started with. I suggest going to Feed The Beast. They have a wonderful "FTB Light" pack that is designed for computers that just don't have the power to handle 200+ mods. I also have a not so good computer. If you would like any help with packs or any more advice about which mods to use or install or if you would like a custom pack, just ask!

im looking for a modpack that can handle all the mundane tasks like farming and mining for me so i can adventure around killing mobs, idc what mods are in it as long it contains TConstruct, Chococraft and Pam's Harvestcraft. Accepting outside mods is also a plus, as I am currently addicted to LittleMiadMobs

OH! I would suggest buildcraft and buildcraft bots for the automation. That one is a bit buggy tho and if you can't get it to work properly then pneumatic craft has some great drones to work with! If you want to go more magic for automation then thaumcraft has some epic golems.

all of them work together. I was just thinking of different automation mods that you could use. When you said "automating basic stuff" I thought of ether the drones or the golems.

SO everything seems to be working so far (even though it is confusing as hell), so on to the next item on my list: I'm looking for a mod that will give you a specific set of items every time you start a new world, because i always get hopelessly lost in the early game w/o a compass, and playing with cheats on takes the fun out of SSP

I suggest you using a minimap, is fairly better than the compass.
Journeymap is a pretty good one. http://journeymap.info/Home

I suggest using NEI and a mini map. If you still want the mod for starting items what you can do is make a world with no cheats, then open your world to lan and select the "cheats" and allow cheats. then after you get your starting books/whatever, you relog and the world will no longer be able to cheat unless you reopen to lan

It is but in the past I have had issues with it ether locking up any game physic processing or it has had some critical crashes with the bots. As I said, tread lightly.

ATM I am experimenting with Thaumcraft, but I might give Buildcraft a try since the Aura Nodes always spawn where I'm building and leave huge holes in my walls

You mean hungry nodes? They only spawn once with world gen. and if its just a normal node then just break it with your hand. and I do sugest buildcraft over thaum. Buildcraft has a block called the builder that helps a lot

Hi my daughter has just started out playing Minecraft and she is fully into it, she watches all the Minecraft vids on YouTube and is obsessed about mods, but I have no idea how to download or what is safe and what isn't, she only wants a couple of mods to start with and am just wondering if you could help me or guide me, and if possible make a small pack for me can't wait to hear back from you. A couple of the mods she is interested in are the king and queen dragon mod, minecraft school mod, creature mod and dragon mod. Thank you so so much

You seem to be new here, so just a little heads-up: piggybacking on another person's forum thread is generally frowned on. Now to answer your question, nearly all of Minecraft's mods require Forge (those that don't will typically tell you what they require) and all mods are safe, with the exception of the small handful of "sex mods" out there, but they are all outdated and no longer work with Minecraft so you should be ok. As for the mods you are describing, the "king and queen dragon mod" sounds like Orespawn, but the rest could describe any number of mods
