Will this be for 1.7.10 ? I hope so so I could 1 day play it with the many large mods not moving to 1.8 AKA Thermal Expansion .
BTW with this mod will you be able to shrink or enlarge your ships like you could with the MetaWorlds mod ? Thanks man ,and this mod looks really interesting . I also don't mind helping test your mod such as testing it with other mods testing stability and such I have helped many modders in the past test there mods before releasing them . I will test the stability in many many situations ,and test compatibility, and or give advice and ideas . I'm honestly enthusiastic about helping . Seems like a really interesting mod/Idea, and I imagine it will be pretty popular once released .
This project looks immensely impressive so far, I would love a chance to be able to have a friggin AIRSHIP BATTLE in minecraft. Thank you for doing this. If you need someone to test anything I'b be happy to help (I can also test the mod on a server).
Things are going pretty well! Collision is basically perfect, and it's extremely efficient (Seriously, it's insane how fast the mod runs). Also I added byouancy forces, so scratch out airship-mod. Its a ship mod now!
Onto issues, shaders still aren't compatible with VK. I tried switching the custom entity renderer away from an object and towards ASM; but it wwas dead on arrival.
Also I'm working out some particularly hairy math, problems with the moment of inertia staying fixed, and issues when the moment of inerta has no determinant cause some Ships to disappear.
Just had surgery today though, so I won't e picking up on any of these issues for a while
The Meaning of Life, the Universe, and Everything.
So, this has got to be the greatest airship/ship mod I've ever seen. I'm loving the way it all works so far, I laughed when bedrock made the ship plummet out of the sky. I think that for actual damaging collisions, one of the simplest and most compatible ways would be to just compare the blast resistances of the blocks, and maybe subtract a certain amount of force based on the difference and the total resistance. Since most mods give they're blocks blast resistance, it would make the calculation work over most combinations.
That being said, I do hope you get well soon, surgery is never fun.
Really looking forward to more from this, haven't been this hyped since AcademyCraft... wait... would magnet movement from that work with this? Because my god, swinging between ships with magnetism would be so epic, or just pulling yourself along the bottom... Dude, this has so much potential.

So far this airship mod seems to be the best one I've seen! Is it possible to allow blocks from other mods work? I tried Metaworlds mod before but it would not allow blocks like electricity generator and gun turrets(actuatlly create and subworlds with gun turrets will crash the game!) work on the ship. Also I hope you could let players to config whether a ship needs balloons to fly.(I personally prefer the fly a ship like the old zeppelin or Archimedes ship mod.)
To prevent your mod from dying before release date I think you should make a simple version with simple physics first so we can try it. It will be very easy to loose yourself in engine physics or sail drag force and never release anything. You should not try to make a perfect product with the first attempt with everything figured out. After all, you are just one person and not a gaming company. Remember Minecraft Alpha? It had nothing, not even caves! Just a plain of grass and very basic stuff. But it got people super excited nevertheless.
Just like we are excited about your idea and the progress you have made so far. Personally, I would not care if the alpha had a purple dummy box as a ship starter. Engine physics, sails, cannons - all of it can come in updates. Just like Notch did with Minecraft. It was beta, like, forever.
In conclusion, just try to release some sort of playable alpha. Without any extra stuff, just with ability to make a ship, control it and collide it with something without crashing the game. Once the community can play with that - they will provide you with a mountain of ideas and directions to push it forward.
I agree! Actually I think maybe it's batter to have a group of people work on this project. I'm a huge fan of flying ships and I'm learning how to make a minecraft mod right now. As a college student I do have some time during summer and I hope if possible I could do some help with this mod.
I'd just like to announce that I've added CreativeMD (Maker of the ItemPhysics Mod) to the project. Currently he's focusing on the performance issues we see when loading large Ships, and I'm just doing general polishing at the moment.
The ETA is still an unknown, but I'll just say that 2 modders can work twice as fast as 1
It would be great if you could combine this mod with IC2 experiment, and add some "anti-gravity" engine and gun turrets built out of IC2 materials. A huge ship like a StarCraft battlecruiser is really some thing I want to construct.
I want to play with the mod first before I build anything. If big ships are allowed - I would build a floating island and collect things on it - livestock, crops, villagers, etc. And then stuff it with cannons. If big ships are problematic - I will have specific ships for separate things (including destroyers for offence\defense). I would also like to build a flying experience farm out of a dungeon spawner. To carry it with me. That would be awesome. Or you can use this farm to drop mobs on an enemy ship. XD Spawn 50 skeletons in one spot and then let them out to party (It happened before by an accident. That was horrible)
