So I've been dabbling with the Big Reactors mod, and if you're familiar with that mod, you'll be familiar with the obnoxiously expensive Ludicrite block, one of which requires not only a nether star, but also 2 blocks of emeralds. If anyone has any suggestions for smallish mods (or really any mod for that matter) that make it easier to obtain emeralds either through gathering or through crafting, it would be greatly appreciated.
I was looking for something a little less "game breaking" than that, something that makes it just so that emeralds are a bit more... attainable. Thank you though!
No problem! Do you happen to know of any mods where emerald crafting is a component? I tried equivalent exchange, but that has updated a TON since I last saw it, and I have no idea how to use it.
I'm surprised that there has been no mention of the best way to get emeralds - trading with villagers, which in some ways is a big steal since you can trade cheap mass-produced items like paper for an item which is rarer than diamond as an ore (at one point they nearly removed emerald ore from the game; as mentioned there, trading is a much more practical way to get emeralds).
If getting villagers is an issue you can easily cure zombie villagers with splash potions of weakness and golden apples (trap them in a secure area under a roof, then use the splash potion, then feed them the apple); only two of each are needed as they will breed on their own provided you meet the requirements, such as having about 3 doors per villager (since you are on 1.7.10 you do not need to feed them or trade with them; they will breed by themselves; zombie sieges are also not an issue). Then it is a matter of trading until you get the trade that you want; note that the last trade will never be locked (this no longer works in 1.8) so you can trade with them indefinitely once you get a villager with a cheap emerald trade as the final offer.
I have indeed started with the whole trading process, and I've also set up a villager breeder so that I can mercilessly melt down villagers with bad trades in a Tinkers' Construct smeltery. The trouble with that is just that, even with profitable trades, I calculated that for the task I'm trying to accomplish, I need over 500 emeralds, something that'll take quite a long while through trading.
To be honest, I think I'll just do that. I've never used the mod before, but I'll learn. I have 2 Extra Utilities ender quarries running at maximum speed, so cobblestone shouldn't be hard to come by!
I have been working on a mod called Better Aquatics Mod, BAM for short. It focuses on making the aquatics of the game more enjoyable. I have been working on the breeder system as well as a block that can turn fish into items. More and more fish are being used to get items, such as items. I will give you a link once I get a version out with the new features.

Don't know if it helps, but this mod is all about emeralds:

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
i prefer project E, with that i can mass produce emeralds for little to no cost

Or u could just get ee2 and trade a couple million peaces of dirt for emeralds
