I'm looking for a few mods to add to my survival to maybe spice things up a bit. No, I don't why dinosaurs or exploding pigs, I just want some mods that maybe add this:
-more biomes
-a few more realistic mobs (NOT Mo Creatures)
-some more edible plants
-some more designing features (more wood colors, shapes, ect.)
For more food and crop options try Pam's HarvestCraft, it adds dozens of new crops and hundreds of new foods to make from them. Biomes O' Plenty will not only give you more than 75 new biomes but also adds dozens of new wood and stone to add to you building options. As for mobs you could try Special AI, which changes the AI of vanila mobs to be more realistic.
Hunger Overhaul, Pam's Harvestcraft, and Special AI are all great mods that work really well together and provide a good challange. I suggest Natura as a nice Biome mod
Just an amendment to my recommendation of Biomes' O' Plenty, I've recently found another biome mod called the Highlands that causes less lag then BoP and has much more of a vanilla feel. It works more in altering the vanilla world gen to be more realistic then BoP, deserts will no longer spawn near winter biomes for example. It doesn't add as many new items as other biome mods but everything feels like it belongs in vanilla.

I was just looking at Highlands, it looks great. I'll have to give it a try now.

Here's a nice creature mod; it doesn't add any blocks, and only a few items; it pretty much just adds some life to your world without overwhelming you with new content: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/1282011-animals-plus-1-3-chameleons-lyrebirds-and-more
Check out Desert Survival @ My Mods just a heads up it is a WIP, but fully functional.
