MCF and Curse is safe, PMC has some stolen mods, but their moderators are normally removing bad mods.
Hello I am not particularly new to minecraft forums having read from it constantly and have downloaded a number of mods and maps from this website myself as well. I am in full support of this movement against the illegal redistribution of mods but I must say do maps count as well? When teams of +6 people put hours upon hours of making a beautiful cosmetic map or a challenging adventure map, is that not the same? I don't really know, just a thought because those same sites have done the same thing with maps.Although I am not a mod maker myself I have played with Mods for YEARS since the first full version of minecraft has been released (1.0) and must say that the things these websites are doing, is completely and utterly, morally and phisically wrong. Its the same thing with an invention painting or piece of music or even a written book (even if its bad), when your work is claimed, redistributed under someone else's name with all of your hard work and hours upon hours of work meaning NOTHING - its one of the most frusterating/enraging things that can happen (in my opinion anyway). I hope this issue is resolved soon and I am sad that this is as a big issue as it is. Happy new years eve!

The same thing applies for maps and resource packs.
Yes Alexthe666, but let me to explain some things.
In case someone created a ModPack, all mods used in the modpack must download from official thread. So far all is well, but after the someone finished a ModPack and it share to public. All mods which it used in modpacko it is upload & download in a different location than the original download link/s. Yes, for such a thing necessarily require permission from each developers.
Now if someone makes a review (including videos on youtube, like showcase) / description, they put the official download link/s (in some cause with adfly) and give credit to the developer.
Let me give an example, which has nothing to do with Minecraft. It makes a review to Windows 8.1 (one random example), I'm write a review for it or make a video (like showcase). I have to ask permission from Microsoft only if I'm share file/s or anything else under law by developer in a different location (download link/s on another website) than the original.
I apologize if I'm think wrong and you can to correct me.
making a youtube review and stealing someones downloads are very different things.
What do you mean with that? If another site posts a link which e.g. circumvents an adfly link then that's even worse: This way not only does the author lose revenue but it also puts more traffic to the download server.
i mean comparing the mods with other mods to put it in more simpler terms without downloading them
You mean if a user was to visit those illegal sites without downloading from there? Sure, that's no problem, but it's absoltutely not a good idea because the information on these sites are often incorrect. One sshould better avoid them at all.
couldnt have said it better

There's already http://stopmodreposts.org/faq/illegal-sites/ for it. I don't see why we would want another page (other than maybe the fact that you can send PRs on Github...)
This is actually a pretty good idea. I might make one.CoolSquid is working on a ranking system. I don't know how that's gonna work, but...
EDIT: made one, https://github.com/VictiniX888/Illegal-Mod-Sites
That's why I thought it up. But the ranking system does sound interesting and I look forward to seeing how it turns out.

Farewell everyone o/
Your ranking system does not take into account things like malware.
I know. Malware is something to be aware of with all sites redistributing the mod files. We will add warnings besides sites with known malware though.

I think you may have misunderstood, mcsix will not distribute any files.
