I have spent several hours this morning working on putting a custom modpack together for myself and my roommate to play on. I've been playtesting it and discovered something odd: every time I place a vanilla furnace at any point in the world, the internal server shuts down with this screen:
And when I click "back to title screen", I get kicked back into the multiplayer world select screen, even though I've been playing SSP. Attempting to re-enter a world once a furnace is placed results in an immediate repeat of the process.
Obviously this pretty heftily limits how far I can progress in worlds; I need those furnaces! I'm at a complete loss as to what's going on here. I'm pretty much new to modding Minecraft, though not to modding in general.

Minecraft's latest.log, which is the closest thing to an error report I could find: http://pastebin.com/dGPGRYRN
The whole thing is there, but here's what seems to be the relevant bit - everything that happened once I placed the furnace:

As you can see, the fatal error occurred at 6:35 AM. None of the crash reports in the crash-reports folder or the error logs in the main .minecraft folder have been updated more recently than 5:20 AM. If there's somewhere else I should be looking, let me know and I'll pull it.
Any help here would be really appreciated, I'm at a loss and several hours of work have gone into this. I really don't want to have to start over. Thanks in advance!

I'm honestly surprised you managed to get into the game. Java 8 is still in beta and breaks modded minecraft. You need to uninstall it and install java 7 version 67.
If that doesn't work, then the error is actually a ways back, in the sequence that starts with
[06:10:26] [Client thread/WARN]: Couldn't look up profile properties for [email protected][id=71837932-5f9d-4046-9e11-edcbaac9fe5e,name=jjcooper0811,properties={},legacy=false]
This is caused by something blocking the connection between your client and mojang's server. There's a similar error message on this mojang bug report (with different effects), but it doesn't seem to have been resolved, and just put down to mojang's new rate-limiting in 1.7.10.
I've been having some computer issues; in fact I'm currently running demo Ubuntu 14.04 off a 4-gig flash drive. With a CRT monitor. And my phone as a speaker.
I actually was not aware there was still a Java 7 build for my OS (such as it is), but I have now found it and am switching to it. I will let you know whether it works or not. Regardless, I really appreciate the help. Whether it works or not, thank you for the time and effort.
Alright, tried to launch Forge 3 times now on Java 7 and it keeps hanging at the MOJANG screen.
HOWEVER: Due to my hardware limitations (discussed previously), whenever I restart my computer I have to reinstall Minecraft, Forge, and all my mods. I had to restart my computer to revert from Java 8 to Java 7. Is there a possibility this could have been caused by me dumping all the mods on Forge at once, giving it too much to do? When I was building the pack I was hunting down everything and putting it in a little bit at a time so I could easily pull something that didn't work; therefore Forge didn't have to activate/install too many mods at any one time. I think my current issue may be caused by overloading Forge. Is this a thing that can happen?
