Hello, I have been thinking about starting a project like this for a while but have had no idea where to start. My idea is turning a regular Minecraft mod pack (with mods like Thermal Expansion, Thaumcraft, Buildcraft ect) and making it seem less like minecraft with mods and more like its own experience. Now to do that there are a couple things that have to be done, Content from the mods needs to be modified and some removed also some own content will be added. Some additional things I want to are a class system, skill trees, custom dungeons and much much more. The reason why I'm making this post is I really need help. I have 2nd to no experience in modding of any kind and there are really no tutorials on how to do what I want to do. Any sort of help will be accepted and all help will be credited Thank you.
Many have tried to do it and they die off, I'm also working on a similar "megamod" which does that RPG stuff, along with strategy/citybuilder elements - but I'm actually already working on it. I expect it to take 2-3 years before it hits 1.0 (my signature links to the massive post which details some of the planned features).
@Vic, no! Start HUGE and OBSESSIVELY OVEREXTEND - that'll give 'em what for!
There are no tutorials for what I'm doing, but that isn't stopping me. Learn Java, Learn Forge, and do - it's called "development" for that reason, done from scratch. With science.
Anyway, mod ideas and stuff are better suited for Requests / Ideas For Mods section. Developers who want to help will check there, developers will often ignore people who can't post in the right section (posting in the wrong section is not a good impression).
Haha... yes well, maybe Vic is the same as me - I can't even play Minecraft anymore, I stopped playing it a long time ago - sure there were new mods and everything but nothing really special. But I also enjoy coding, I've made apps just for fun or my own use many times but this is the first game mod.
The way it is for me, my mod may be impossible. It may never finish. But I personally don't want to play Minecraft, I want to play this mod. And I am enjoying making it, and plan to for at least another year
I think my point is it's a matter of what you want to do. Of course I'm excited to play a mod like I am making, but I am just as excited in *coding* it.
