I'm running a server to do a series with a couple friends. I'm using mods with Forge. The server has the mods installed but to play on it, our clients also have to have the mods installed. How do I make it so we don't need the mods client-side to play on our modded server?
I am using Minecraft 1.7.2 and using Hamachi to host the server.
I've been on servers that have mods like Archimedes Ships and Goblins Mod installed that I can play in normal Vanilla -- not even using Forge or having those mods installed at all.
Those would most likely be plugins that are very clever in their code. You have to have mods installed on both client AND server, to play on a server with the mods. They need to be on the server for the actual logic behind the features within the mod, and they need to be on the client so the client can do stuffs with the features such as rendering, sounds, etc. There is no way to have Forge mods running only on the server, but working on connected clients, unless, as said by nxsupert, they are server mods or client mods specifically.
