Hey Guys, Sup? REDVocxion here.
I have been trying to install a mod in Minecraft for weeks. I use Linux (Ubuntu 10.4.1) so I searched how to install mods on Linux. I downloaded OptiFine for 1.7.4 and followed the steps to install it. It says that after going to .minecraft I have to go to the bin folder and then delete META-INF, but my bin folder is empty. I opened minecraft.jar with Archive Manager and found the META-INF in it so I deleted it, then I copy-pasted all the mod "stuff" and tried to launch Minecraft. But I didn't have the mod installed. I tried choosing different versions but I couldn't use it plus I also found a second META-INF in the folder (which I deleted later), but it's still not working.
I recommended you delete everything in the .minecraft folder (aside from the folder marked saves) and run minecraft once as to have less clutter to confuse you. Also random thought, Linux or versions of Linux (like ubuntu) are generally for the more advanced users. Was your computer a hammy down, or maybe you had a virus and someone at a computer shop fixed it by installing Linux? There has to be some story behind why a person of your computation skill level is using Linux.
Anyway....
Forge download: (be sure to get the recommended version of forge the minecraft version your using)

Thank you. This helped but OptiFine really messed up all my textures like everything looks like some dubstep version of minecraft with rainbows everywhere. I think I have to remove the files from the mod folder. Oh well. But I will try other mods

Run the forge auto installer.
Drop all files into the "mods" folder that are mods.
Can you give me a link to download forge and tell me how to install it please
Anyway....

Run minecraft once after installing forge, that will create the mods folder.
Optionally you can just create a folder called "mods" in your .minecraft directory..
Installing forge is easy, just run the java installer.
If you need additional help be sure to post about it I'm here for ya man.
I did everything you told, I deleted all files (except saves) and also installed forge but still I can't find the mods folder
