I really want my first mod but I have no idea how to install them! I downloaded one called MineFarm1.11 but I don't know what to do with it. Are there any easy ways of installing them?
Before I tell you how to install mods there is one problem. The mod you want to use, MineFarm, is for version 1.5.2 and will not work with version 1.7.2.You can still use it but you will need to use minecraft 1.5.2
How to install minecraft forge mods minecraft 1.5.2 onwards:
Step 1: Download minecraft forge for the respective version of minecraft as well as any mods you want to use and their dependencies
Step 2: Start the minecraft forge installer, this will make a profile called 'forge' in the launcher
Step 3: Start the forge profile, this will set up forge
Step 4: Go to the .minecraft folder and put all the files for the mods in the folder named 'mods', if it isn't there just create it
Step 5: Play the forge profile with the mods
Also, just a tip. Any questions like this belong in the mods discussion forum, not in the minecraft mods forum.
I didn't mean to discourage you from installing mods. It isn't really that complicated. Choose the minecraft version and download the installer. The source one is for mod authors and universal is for manual installation. If you want to install forge easily choose the installer
So I'm watching this video to figure it out and i'm halfway in the middle of backing up my minecraft, is launcher.jar the same as minecraft.jar?
No, the launcher.jar is the minecraft launcher. In the new launcher the minecraft.jar will be found under versions and will be named (version).jar. Forge for 1.5.2 does have an installer, it will be much easier to use that rather than use the old method (which would still work).
I can't seem to figure it out, it doesn't really matter, I might get someone else to do it for me.
Ended up just removing Minecraft Forge from my minecraft folders... Can I uninstall it yet? Like, if I uninstall Minecraft Forge will it delete it from all the folders it might be in? Or will that break my Minecraft?

The easiest way to remove a minecraft forge manual installation is to delete the profile and make a new one for whatever version you want. The launcher will download whatever version of minecraft you want to use when you play a profile.
New versions of forge, for 1.6.2+ and perhaps 1.5.2, have an installer. The installer will install forge for you, so if you still want to use mods try some for 1.6.2 or later because forge can be installed easily for that version.
Forget everything I said, I figured it out! Yay! haha thank you so much for your help! MineFarm is pretty amazing, too btw
Any other mod suggestions? =D
Here are a few good mods:
NEI, adds an in game recipe viewer. Very helpful when you have a lot of mods (needs CodeChickenCore)
Thaumcraft, adds magic to the game and a research system
Buildcraft, adds automated crafting, item transport, automated mining, etc.
Mystcraft, adds customisable dimensions

NEI and CraftGuide are both mods you can use to find recipies for things in game
