On the website for the Pixelmon mod (basically Pokemon in Minecraft) there's a blog post (permalink) saying they removed DRM from the mod at the request of a Mojang dev. While I'm always glad to hear DRM was removed (and kudos to Mojang for requesting it) I'm confused as to why it was even there in the first place, and what its purpose was. Why put DRM in something that's free?
Also, I'd be curious to see the text of said request, if it's published anywhere.

No.. DRM is still there. Try running it from a Technic launcher.. It disables your minecraft inventory menu and won't give any starter pokemon. I don't know how further it goes on to gimp the game in it's entirety because I had to use the standard minecraft launcher to play it. If you open tickets they automatically assume you are creating packs and failing the TOS of their mod... They point you to use their launcher (Windows ONLY) or the ATLauncher (they don't do private packs, only public with websites and whitelists.. They acknowledge it's there to force people to go to their site to submit bugs and get tech support instead of going elsewhere... What a pain.
