After numerous attempts to make mods work using MCPatcher to no avail, I'm coming here to ask you guys. I'm playing Minecraft 1.4.7 on a 10.6.8 Mac. I modified the code to play Minecraft in 64 bit. I can intall basic mods that don't require ModLoader or Forge to be installed, but whenever I try a more complicated mod, I just doesn't show up in game after I try and install it. I've tried following the exact instructions for mods like Mo' Creatures, turning the minecraft.jar into a minecraft.bin, then back to minecraft.jar with it as a folder, and the friggin' mods still won't show up. Also, whenever I try and add a ModLoader/Forge mod on MCPatcher, I get this. (I was trying to install this mod.) Am I supposed to select the "/" folder, or specific things in it?
So, excusing my huge ramblefest, should I manually install the mods into the folder named minecraft.jar, or use MCPatcher? Could someone give me detailed instructions on how to do so? All of the guides seem to be outdated.
Sorry to ask such a big favor, but I have no idea what else to do, and all of my friends that play Minecraft use PCs, so I'm the odd one out. Any help will be very much appreciated :3
NOTE: I've tried to follow the guides word for word, both on using MCPatcher to install mods, and putting them into the minecraft.jar and other folders manually, but they just don't work. I have basic knowledge of computers, but can only do advanced things if I follow a video or good instructions.
Also, forgot to say: I've used MCPatcher for a few weeks, but got frustrated after the bigger mods didn't work. I know how to add mods, but whenever I try to insert mods that show the "/" folder, they don't work. Just wanted to clear that up.
Ok, in the setup folder is a mods folder... there is one folder[resources] and 2 zip files... I don't install atomicstrykers update checker but the Ruins_1.4.6.zip and resources folder go into your "mods" folder. I use 127 mods... if all of them try to check for updates, Minecraft takes forever to load.
I would use MultiMC, it is Windows/Linux/Mac compatible... it has a button to install forge so it makes it basically a 2 click install. then you can manually place the resources folder in mods(use view folder in MultiMC), then point MultiMC to the Ruins_1.4.6.zip file from the "mods folder" tab.
Edit: P.S. There is an "Edit" button in all posts by you, dunno if you missed it... but some people will eventually accuse you of trying to inflate your post count if you dont get in the habit early of using it
Edit2: I am also not sure what you mean by "showing the / folder" ... might be a mac thing... maybe a screenshot of what you see could clarify?
Thanks for the tips, and yeah, I missed the "Edit" button...*facepalm* I'll make sure to use that next time.
One thing...I don't see a "Install Forge" button on MultiMC, but that might just be because I'm using a Mac. Do I have to make another instance first?
Edit: By "/ folder" was the top of the picture that I posted of MCPatcher, where a folder titled "/" is being highlighted. I was wondering if I was supposed to select that or just the individual parts.

I totally missed the little "here" link in your op with the image
I usually open mods with 7-zip, and this is what i see:
The main part that comes to mind is the readme.txt... and unfortunately the way he packaged his mod, it needs a little tweaking on my end to make it MultiMc Compatible... I had to extract ruins.zip that I dl'ed... inside i found what was needed with readme files... one file i was able to choose inside of MultiMC, the other i had to move into mods manually:
just get the latest forge turn your minecraft jar into a folder (the unarchiver is free in app store) then youll get a foler that says mods to get to the library go to home then hold alt find library g to app support find minecraft folder go to mods download one off internet go to show in finder the drag it in your welcome
