This is my opinion on Forge on both the pros and cons on it.
Forge: An API, much like Modloader used for most mods.
Pros:
Every Forge mod is compatible with each other.
Easier for modders
Alternative to Modloader and MCPatcher
Cons:
Can be hard to download at first.
Not all mods use its API
Now I've been seeing people saying they don't like Forge, well they shouldn't complain that Forge is copying Modloader or it's hard to install or other stupid things like that.
Think about it for both sides before complaining about Forge (The modder and the Player).
Modders can use it's API to update their mods easier and faster.
Players may have trouble with getting Forge, but its not Forge fault, it's the players. Also I like Forge because it's an alternative for modloader. (I don't want to use modloader because it has bugs)
That's my opinion on Forge, feel free to say want you want to say about your opinion on Forge.
The cons for forge aren't even cons really; at least not against forge itself. There are others if people have trouble installing it. Honestly there are so many resources on how to install it i'm not sure how anyone can't figure it out (And yet they still post here begging for help) The other con isn't even a con against forge either, just the fact that some mods don't use it.

It's really hard to come up with cons for Forge lol. I also agree on your statement on how people can't figuring it out.
Well, for cons you have FlowerChild's position that Forge has become bloated. This is an argument that can be contested, seeing that there are already builds of Forge out for 1.4.
Then there's his claim that it's become a competitive nightmare. That's internal modder's politics, and he's one of the few with the position.
Cons: Can be hard to download at first.

I don't understand. All you have to do is download it, drop it in the jar, delete META-INF and you're good to go. If somebody can't figure that out, I'm surprised they learned to use a computer in the first place.

That might have been true back when he was on the team but the current team seems to be very open to adding things both by and for the different mod authors.

That's a rather sweeping statement. Please, provide some examples of non-jar mods that Forge doesn't work with.
He is mistaking the goal of making the mods compatible with all mods that use it with the goal of making mods compatible with everything, the first is forges goal the second is imposible. The only way to have total compatablity is for everyone to use the same API.
I really think you have to break this up to a modder and a user perspective
Modder
Pro
Allows you to program better mods with better features without editing base classes (and thus killing compatibility)
Just the presence of hooks provided by Forge gives you ideas for more features.
Modding is much easier with it's Client/Common system as you only have to write code once (IMHO biggest selling point)
If you need extra functionality, you can make a pull request allowing you to add even more killer features without editng base classes
Cons
It's installation routine makes it dificault to take advantage of both Forge and other APIs (eg PlayerAPI)
You will be hounded with people asking demanding a non-forge version, or comming to you with problems because Forge is not compatible with X (although I like to think of it as X is not compatible with Forge)
Rebuttle: This isn't really Forges fault, but more of a user issue. Still kinda needs to be taken into consideration
Requires you to re-lean quite a few things
User
Pro
Allows more mods to be compatible with each other as there is less base class edits.
Bundles the functionality of multiple APIs (Modloader, ModloaderMP, 4028 fix (or whatever it is)) meaning less downloads.
Cons
Not compatible with mods that edit the same base class as Forge
Rebuttle: This is the fault of the lazy modders who edit base classes rather than doing it a cleaner way, there is little excuse for 90% of these cases as you can easily make a git hub pull request on Forge to get needed hooks.
Requires the download of Forge as well as the mod files
Rebuttle: But so does modloader and any other API for that matter
It crashes my game
Rebuttle: Follow the instalation instructions and don't use any jar mods that edit the same classes and you will be fine.
People (eg Flowerchild) keep saying it sucks so it sucks
Rebuttle: Seriously? Just look at all the good points about Forge and actually think about it. 99% of people who have troubles it all comes down to user error, they are just to proud to admit they screwed up so blame Forge. Just try it.
lol, I hear people complain about forge constantly, and THE ONLY reason why is they can't rtfm. I don't like getting bothered by it, but it escapes me why forge is so much harder to install than any other jar mod... It's the same process as modLoader...
That and you get the nearly infinitely compatible mods.
There really is no good reason to dislike forge, it's all stubbornness or incompetence.
The bad thing is that lanchers like MultiMC (the best in my Opinion) installs Forge for you with on click if that is what you want. plus lets you have other copy of mincraft to do other non Forge mods also. do some searching peeps

I prefer the usual magiclauncher, less errors and it takes up less space.
I can't think of any cons really with forge, installation isn't bad. Because with it now installation is easier (less putting into jar mods).
All I can really think of is compatibility, which typically is because of someone who Argued with the forge creator and therefore refuses to use it. Or someone who's too lazy to not edit base classes, which intern creates conflicting mods.

Just playing devil's advocate here.
Exactly. Just imagine if we had the mod API... maybe sometime in the next decade...
