I'm asking (poll) this because I'm sick of updating mods. To update mods in GMOD; I navigate to my C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\<username>\garrysmod\garrysmod\addons folder, hit CTRL+A then right click and select "SNV UPDATE". Then I go make some tea and watch an episode of my favorite crime drama. By the time I'm done, all (not kidding here) 114 of my mods are updated.
I don't even play Gmod every day like I do minecraft! :mellow.gif:
So why haven't MC modders gone this route?
I can understand for in-jar mods (this will change with a good modding API, but I'm not holding my breath (****ing ocelots)), but the stuff that nests in modloader's special folder is ripe for SVN usage.
In a game where the devs change the code every few months, forcing the modders to the same (and apply several revisions for bug fixes in between), this is almost needed.
Lastly (because I can't put another question); is it even worth it to modders to "sell" their mods? Put ya / na in your post and the reasons for your answer.
To clarify the last question:
Assuming modders just put a donate button on their thread, and emailed a SVN link to anyone who donates a set amount or greater.
Like, for example: Spacetoad says "donate any amount, but 10+ gets you SVN updates!".
So I ask you, members of this forum, would you pay for your mods? Assuming of course that the bare minimum customer service be applied (SVN updating).
Way ahead of you. :tongue.gif:
I already have my mod on SVN (source that is, subversion isn't really designed for binary files), and I already have an automatic installer.
I'd like to see some sort of unified auto installer thingy, in fact; I've supported several start up projects regarding one, but after a couple of days they usually go silent.
I feel the minecraft modding community is just too fragmented. That or too much in love with their adify links. xD
Either way; most people prefer to do it the old school way anyways.
Not that I intend to gain any profit from my mods, nor do I ever use adf.ly links, I know some people might start charging.
I know that most of the 'big' modders have kind hearts, but could you imagine how f*cked up the community would be if we had to pay for fun little addons?
I don't know about you guys, and I know it sounds weird, but I think of the Minecraft community as a second family. We're all relatively nice to eachother, and we share things free of charge.
Before the full release of Minecraft, I was kind of feeling like the family was getting to open. Anyone could just jump in and **** around. Of course, it was the right thing to do on Mojangs part, and I'm not saying that shouldn't have released it in any way, shape, or form.

I've been working on a Warcraft mod an incredibly long time. Just you wait, people.
Oh absolutely. What the minecraft mod community needs more than anything is another reason for people who dont play minecraft or know anything about it to start making mods.
