Ok, so I was thinking of more mods to do once MCP is released and i thought about 2 things, mob/npc pathing and beds.. there somewhat related, just hear me out for a sec.
Well im just going to jump into mob AI first. The pathing is.. well really unexistant. you can easily trap mobs and well do whatever to them without any real trouble if you know what your doing. It just seems too easy to trap a mob behind a 2 block high wall and then just shoot them with a bow.
So that brings me into pathing. I feel like adding mob pathing will help for a number of things. For one, it will add a little more difficulty in fighting mobs seeing as you wouldnt be able to just block and shoot them from out of reach.
This leads me into beds. I hate how the current system works. I have to have my bedroom dead center of a big base, extremely lit up (like a torch touching each side and corner of the bed) and i still have trouble sleeping through the night sometimes. So if there was an actual mob pathing system, instead of checking if your area is safe (lit up well and has no mobs withing whatever range it's set for), there could be an added check to see if any of the mobs in the area have an accessable path into your bedroom, and for creepers i guess within the explosion range of your bed, ontop of the lighting and everything. This way even if there is nearby mobs, you can still sleep if your in an area which is safe (unpathable) to mobs
As far as going about implimenting this, i think the difficulty wouldnt be too bad seeing as every single block already has an interger coordinate and all entities can only jump one block high.
My only 2 concerns would be, for one, spiders, seeing as they can climb up flat walls, this would kind of change how their specific pathing would work, and 2, making a good enough algorithm to not hurt MC's performance too badly
Need a good universal mob farm? Check out the Double Shift Towers. Designed for 1.9 and gets 22,000 Items / Hour with a very simple redstone set up - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jL8aoJpjjgU
Hmm, another concern i just thought of while posting. I think a LOS (line of sight) check would also be in order for mob pathing to work decently. If you were running through a cave system and you happened to walk through a hall with multiple other linking areas nearby which you are unaware of, the mobs in those areas would still be in range to start attacking you, then youd get mobbed by everything in the area assuming theres some sort of accessable pathway to you.
So a LOS check would be necessary unless you feel like taking on an army of mobs all at once. Also with the LOS check you could make it so if a mob loses LOS on you for an extended period of time that they would lose their aggro on you and just chill again waiting on their next victim

Like the bed-thing, though I'm not sure about the rest. Sounds good, I suppose.
Thanks, the bed idea wss really the basis of this idea. I hate how the current system works. Its so annoying to sleep through the night until you have a well established area. But i think the actual pathing itself seems necessary in the future atleast because the degree of difficulty for killing mobs is very low, this way would atleast make them a little bit tougher to kill in theory. But im sure adding a pathing system will find more uses then this.
For instance, when NPC villages arent useless any more, the NPCs there could use the pathing for certain things. For example a guard patrol, or citizens doing stuff (walking between houses and farms and such to make the appearance of them doing work). I think this would be much more appealing then NPCs running away from their homes into the wild if you leave their door open to just get killed by mobs which they currently do now.
Its sad, i was hoping by full release that something would have been done to NPC villages. Me and my friend who play on a private server found one and he build a castle and i build a temple nearby the city and we were working on reinforcing the city, but most of the villagers are dead now due to us leaving doors open and the villagers running away
