It's been a while since I've been around here. Mainly due to the fan in my laptop crapping out, resulting in me not being able to play MineCraft without my laptop melting. But, internet marketing's been very great to me lately, so I got myself a nice new laptop and I'm ready to start some more programming for you guys.
I dunno how many people remember, but a while back there was a program called the "OCMI - OneClick Mod Installer". The latest version had a couple thousand unique downloads, so I'm assuming someone will remember it. Anyways, I was the creator, but I had to drop the project due to my laptop's fan crapping out. Can't really program for a game that I can't play, right? Well, I figured that I would start up on something again for everyone. Something very user friendly like the OCMI, but without the bugs, and with even more features. Then I thought, why restrict it to just installing mods for the user? So I came up with the idea for the MineCraft Control Panel. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that I always have 10+ tabs in Chrome open relating to MineCraft. And on top of that, the countless zip files in my un-cleaned downloads folder from downloading mod updates and so on.
So the point of the MCCP is basically to bring everything related to MineCraft into a central program. So that you won't have to open up 4 new tabs in Chrome, or search YouTube for that piston farm design. Videos will be included in the program itself, including dozens of tutorials which you can look through at your leisure, "Let's Play" videos, and more. You'll be able to peruse through schematics and blueprints very easily. I'm even developing a nice blueprint-viewing system that will let you analyze any schematic someone has developed and shared with you.
But anyways, I don't want to give a terrible amount away because I'm not yet done with the feature list, or layout plans. I wanted to post this to see if anyone has any feedback, and to get any ideas. I'd like to get ideas for features to add, something you would like in a MineCraft "Control Panel" that would make things a bit easier on your MineCraft experience. Such as the mod installing, that will be made extremely easy with the MCCP, as will be world and jar management. The possibilities are endless, I just want to know what you all would want in a program like this. And of course, it'll be free. I don't believe in paying for software. (I realize games are software, but they're a different story) I won't even have a donate button on the program. There will be a small support link, and this will link you to some surveys you could complete that will make me a couple bucks. So just time donations.
Also, I don't just want feature ideas, I'd like layout ideas too. Want the program to be crazy detailed/complex? Simple? Let me know!
Thanks everyone! Hope to get a great response from you all!
I've already started developing a GUI, when I am finished with it I will post screenshots. Of course, this will be updated as more features are planned.
Also, any new modders, I'm more than willing to showcase a mod of yours to get your name out there :smile.gif: I planned on doing this with the OCMI, but now I actually can.
This went so much faster & smoother with the OCMI. Didn't realize this board is so small compared to the released mods board. Guess I'll have to rely on myself for a while and put out a beta version to get this thing off the ground.

Sounds nice. I didn't know there was a util in java that allowed opening compressed archives.

The first version is actually going to be written in VB.NET. After it gets in a relatively final stage, then I'll port it over to Java. My knowledge of Java isn't the best. :wink.gif:
I think I may release version 1.0.0 when I'm done with the schematic viewer/creator. I'm also going to get together a nice feature list for the thread. Shooting for releasing that within a few hours. :smile.gif:
hahaha Not when it comes to writing automation tools that have to handle multiple processes, threads, webrequests, etc. etc. It gets just as complicated as any other language. I don't go the easy route and make like calculator or some BS like that. :wink.gif:
