------My Problem With It------
So, apparently people just don't like ad.ly. Gaea knows why. I mean, they basically go "you made the mod not minecraft so i ant givin u moneh for making a mod you serve us you are our slaves" I hate people like this. They deserve to be dragged out into the street and beat to near death. "ohhh hur hur adly gives my comp a virus, norton says so" NORTON SUCKS. IT IS THE WORST ANTIVIRUS EVER. But, as simo said,
Do you think I'm entitled to a little money for something which has taken me hundreds of hours to write and continue to write, countless more hours spent on these forums helping out people, keeping the mod up-to-date and usually having the mod updated to the latest version within 24 hours? You will still get the mod for free and it doesn't take you any longer to get the download than a traditional mirror.
If I make some money off this I can spend longer on it (as it's an income source) and write better things for it. I spent quite a lot of time looking for a way of making a little bit of money from this, as unobtrusively as possible and this is the best I could find.
I hope everyone understands my incentive as to why I have done this. I am still working out exactly how I am going to handle downloads from here forward and if you have a suggestion as to an alternative I am happy to consider it.
That makes crystal clear sense. You get the goddamn mod for free. You don't even pay. SUPPORT AD.LY. That's the reason Humans+ was discontinued. These dingbats hating on ad.ly. I download SPC multiple times just to support the guy.

Truthfully, adf.ly is a good way. People who say it's a virus just have horrible software.
I would figure that no one would have it wrong just because they want a little money, because of the time they've spent.
Although, they do. People complain about it, just so they don't have to have the modder gaining money. It's a selfish act, whereas the people who create the mod are being selfless and sharing the mod with others. They deserve the little bit of money. It's not a big deal, and personally, it shouldn't be treated as one.
Why do people say norton sucks?
It cleared 5 viruses off my computer (rootkit, trojan, backdoor, 2 adwares)
Ontopic: I agree. We should support them (though I was never a fan of humans+) I think modders deserve pay for their time.
I don't like Adfly much, but I cope with it and it's only 5 seconds. Thankfully, I'm prepared when using it with the wonderful Adblock in Firefox, which stops the majority of virus infested bits on the site. No, I don't think its unlikely that Adfly has viruses. But that ain't the modders fault, and they're entitled to put such links, considering they've gone to the effort to make the mods.
I completely agree with this. I don't mod, but I hate it when people hate on adf.ly. ITS ONLY 5 SECONDS! I actually prefer it over all of the other file hosting sights because they all bring up a thousand add popups (which for some reason chrome doesn't block). The third one that people less commonly use (I can't remember its name), you have to wait 45 seconds, so in my opinion, adf.ly is the best. You know, maybe there should be a rule on the forums that requires that mod makers use adf.ly when they post their mods? It would stop all the people raging at the mod makers (after a little while at least).
I understand why people hate it so much most of the download sites take like a minute to download while adf.ly. only takes 5 sec and helps out the modder (whose spent so much time helping EVERYONE not just what you specifically want.) I prefer it b/c at least im helping and it's easier.
Side Note; I can make the art for the banner but i am not to great(or good at all) with HTML coding havnt really looked into it yet.
I agree with everything... Including the 'NORTON SUCKS' part. If you are running and Windows OS (except XP 64-bit) I would STRONGLY recommend getting Microsoft Security Essentials, It's the best and only anti-Virus I have used in a very long time. Just thought I would put in my two-cents there.
But back on-topic with Adf.ly, I completely agree, why should you ***** about 5 seconds of your life and maybe (very rarely) a pop-up? is it that hard to wait to click 'SKIP AD' or the little [x] in the top right corner there? No, get over it. Modders deserve something for their work. Most people wont click on the donation button, therefore the modder will earn nothing at all.
This community is starting to go downhill, and its starting to worry me, but I will stick by the modders, and by Minecraft, until the day it dies!

Personally, my number one way of not getting viruses on my computer is not to visit unsafe websites. Unfortunatly, adf.ly is an unsafe website. I don't have antivirus software that stays resident, I just have several that I manual scan once a week or so. The result? Because I practice safe browsing, I've never had a virus. That and I don't use IE.
My other problem with adf.ly is that a lot of professional level antivirus programs block it completely. So, for instance, if a mod is using it, I can't download the mod when I'm at college. Which freaking sucks cause I've got like 3 hours a day of boredom as a result of trying not to waste gas.
When I do release them, none of my mods will be on adf.ly. They will be on my website with google ads running, but that is at least just text ads, and google does a pretty good job at blocking unwanted content
there are a couple of things..
first there are barely any viruses in ads(as long as you dont go in them).. i dont use a antivirus software antmore and im fine....
2 norton is a fine antivirus software so dont curse it just cause people are selfish.
third..modders work all day long like slaves for us and many of us just dont give a ****! many game downloads require you to wait 20 to 60 seconds in a stupid mirror while adfly just makes you wait 5 seconds. if you think about it adfly is great! it gives its users money and downloaders need to wait 5 seconds while in some mirrors the user needs to pay the mirror money and the downloader needs to wait a minute and can only download 1 thing at a time unless he pays money too.
the one thing i dont agree with is beating up people for not using adfly for the simple fact that violance aint gonna solve anything and they are loosers anyway so you dont want to make them feel even worse with themselves(i just did but whatevs).
(unrelated:)have any of you seen anyone who cursed or got angry at modders who use adfly?
by the way making a rule that forces modders to use adfly is not a good idea because there are some 14 year old modders and it will suck for them..other then that its great
