Well the aether thread was locked so this is my home away from home now. Hopefully we don't get the tidal wave of begging newbs and awful ideas that Aether did.

So just think about the move's I'm making on the chess board.
Right now, I'm about to put you in Checkmate.

Finally, the Aether thread was just filled with arguing and nonsense by the less than patient. I feel a particular liking to this thread namely because of the active modeler and the amazing work of the modder, as well as the whole idea of being a master of my favorite mob (Ironic due to my arachnophobia). I wish you luck and thanks in answering obvious questions so the modders don't have to, and if within my range I will assist. And once more, it's nice to see that familiar intelligent orange text.
This is a very interesting idea; I'd really like to see it tested out.
Not a big fan of the models for the bees, honestly; they look a lot like humans with silly bee-print leotards on currently. That said, I imagine a flying mob would be rather difficult to make, so just regular giant bees might be out of the question. But that's what I'd suggest (and for the potential ants as well); make the queen/king partially humanoid (like the spiders), and make the rest of their minions just giant versions of otherwise normal insects.
In regards to crafting and the like, I think a similar, but unique crafting tree would be great. The key issue, I think, is what replaces wood as the tier-1 building material, since, as a spider, you won't have as easy access to it as a human player would, though I guess you could argue that humans can only go get wood during the day, while the SQ could get it during the night. But then, there are the aesthetic and slightly-useful things like sugar-cane, flowers, etc. that would be harder for a cave-dweller to farm; especially when they require grass and/or sand; neither of which are in abundant supply in the caves. If moss grew naturally on cobblestone, that could replace grass, and you could use gravel rather than sand; and then you'd just need unique recipes for the substitutions, so rather than sugar, eggs, and wheat, the SQ's version of cake uses a root-like plant instead of wheat, Mushrooms instead of sugar, etc. and humans can't craft the SQ's version of cake and visa versa.
I'm just throwing ideas out. Probably too much work for the current scope of the project, but there you go.
Sorry I've been so swamped with school work guys. Finals are coming up and I have a game I have to write from scratch due in a couple of weeks. So I've been nonstop working on my final since it's pretty important.
The game I'm making for class is actually turning out to be pretty damn impressive, especially since I got a lot of ideas of how to set up the game engine from minecraft. I just got dynamic colored lighting working for the first time in my programming experience and it's so pretty. :]
I have no idea why Minecraft didn't use the whole spectrum for colored lighting.
Anyway, I'll get back to work on this mod as soon as I can. So stay tuned.
Yay wasps, and also, if the mobs stay cocooned couldn't one display them as trophies? Because that's what I want to do. It would be great if they became a placeable item like how cake is so you could bring them bake to the safety of your home and arrange them however you want. A downside could be that it would be like cake where you can't pick it back up once placed.

Spawned from hives, and also spawn during the day. Attracted to flowers.
Passive until attacked. Attacking it draws the attention of other bees. May drop honey.
Spawns from hives and during the day. Attracted to hives. Always aggressive. Come in packs of 2-3. Don't know what it drops.
Appears only after breaking a hive, along with five Fighters. Spawns fighters; otherwise helpless!
What will you do? Will you kill her for her Royal Jelly, or Cocoon her and take her home?
We're aiming for a few weeks to a month.
Also, all worker and fighter bees IRL are female. You should make the "warrior" bee/human hybrid resemble a woman than a "what-is-this."

Oooo. What can you make with a Queen Bee cocoon?
I say you should bee-able to make either more spiders with her body, or be able to eat her like a cake...
That would be cool...
Another idea i came up with, is how about an ant lion, i know in real life they dont eat ants, but it would still be cool...
It would dig a hole, and eat whatever fell into, popping out first...
This was my homemade banner, so yay me

Queen bee cocoons can be made into "beds" and hence the queen bee cocoon spawns queen spider (you)
Still some amazing stuff going on here
We're actually considering adding realistic-looking ants to the underground to keep mining experiences as somewhat dangerous.
Also, realistic wasps.
Yeah all that should be neccessary is more realistic bugs like Equeon said
