SUGGESTION: Since only the Aether dirt can supply the vegetation in the aether with enough energy / food (can't think of the right word), that means vegetation from the overworld should grow faster on such soil. Is this possible to do without TOO much work? Cuz if not, act like you didn't read this, i want to play this mod as soon as possible :biggrin.gif:
I agree with you! They should clearly make it like that!
After thinking for a bit, I have come to ask you to not include important blocks such as s in the portal. If I am correct, the portal creates a new one inside the Aether. If that portal has s in it... infinite diamond. D: Same as the easy mine obsidian with the Nether portals.

May I make a small suggestion? I think cherry trees would look nice in the Aether.
Instead of normal saplings, the leaves would drop cherry saplings, which have light pink leaves/blossoms (I'm not trying to be girly here, FYI), and cherry clusters, which would heal a few hearts. The trees would only grow in the Aether, but you could take the saplings down to the Overworld to plant there.
Look at the bottom of the first post, we're adding the Nether Update to this mod too. All of it.

Definitely, this is a great idea. I like the proposal that you could speed up tree growth in the overworld with aethersoil. However, I don't think that normal trees should be able to grow in the Aether, because it would make the dimension look messy and such. Alos, I don't think that normal trees have the same kind of resilience to the harsh sunlight and high altitude that the Skyroots and the Golden Oaks have evolved.

Considering the "reasoning" is that "there wouldn't be enough oxygen to start fires" Seems sensible... but there is enough atmosphere for trees and animals to live as well as the player? Aside from the otherwise artificial limitation to prevent the creation of portals on either side, there is no reason not to be able to use fire in the aether. Logically that would also mean that furnaces don't work, either.
Aether dirt is the only dirt that can support the plants growing in a high upper atmosphere environment where plants would usually be unable to grow. It's not a stretch to say that such an environment, that requires special soil could also prohibit fires. Furnaces could still work using lava (if you merely put the ban on fire, and didn't mess with lava) or perhaps using the special golden logs/planks that are only found in the nether, that may provide heat through some method other than burning (microwave radiation emissions?)
Personally I don't really like the idea of not being able to make portals to anywhere. I mean, obviously you won't be able to make an Aether portal directly in the nether (due to the water requirement). But it seems that having portals going amongst the three worlds could be a logistical challenge for the player to overcome. Here is how I'm thinking it through:

furthermore if you go back up to the surface and build a Nether portal on the spot that would line up with Nether portal that is connected to the nether, would the overworld nether portal link to the netherportal that is already linked to the aether nether portal?

I agree with this. I've always wanted these kind of cherry trees in MC, and they do seem like they might fit with the aether color scheme.
