I actually quite like the idea of having a "Wood Ore" style block, but I really do hope that it requires an Axe of some kind to access. Personal opinion here, but I think that the "golden orbs" should be replaced with, or even just renamed to "Golden Amber" It'll emphasize its tree origins, still work for crafting the items already using golden orbs, and possibly even open up new crafting recipes.
I agree. A million times. Amber-tipped darts also make more sense than orb-tipped darts.

Rather than referring to this as a "lack" of oxygen, it might be better to just say that Aether's Oxygen is non-flammable. After all the player does have an oxygen meter. If there's straight out a lack of oxygen, it should affect the player's oxygen meter.
I think a better reason why torches won't work in the Aether would be that it's too windy (even in caves) for an open fire to take hold.
I think there should still be a light source unique to the Aether, but I don't want a new kind of torch. Perhaps a way to reflect light in from the outside? There certainly is plenty of it to go around out there.

While I'm totally behind the style of poison being used (screen disorientation, random directions, etc rather than HP draining) I still generally don't like the idea of poison being something introduced by the Aether.
I actually really like this poison. It makes much more sense coming from the Aether than the Nether; the Aether's mobs are all about trying to knock you off the island, and what better way to do it than making you do it yourself?

My other issue is that it's a BUCKET of poison. I'm just generally feeling tired of the bucket. Couldn't we shift this feature onto bowls? Give them another use besides just mushroom soup? Plus an entire bucket of poison jut feels like a bit too much.
I agree that a bucket of poison is a bit much, but a recipe for skyroot bowls kinda conflicts for the recipe for the skyroot bucket, which I really like...idk. Maybe go with bowls and enchant them to let them carry water and clouds?

I'll be honest. I'm not so sure the "moving in random directions" would really help all that much with fighting any particular mobs.
Actually, I think this effect would be really useful for killing zephyrs and whirlwinds. While they're stunned, they can't really blast you away.

Oxygen itself is not flammable. Combustion is the reaction of a compound with oxygen to form a different compound (for example, coal is effectively Carbon, and, under complete combustion, burns with the following chemical equation: C + 02 -> CO2. If this occurs, the flame it produces is blue, not yellow. The reason we have a yellow flame is because there is not enough oxygen for total complete combustion. This partially produces this equation: 2C + 02 -> CO.
These are more accurate combustion equations:
CH4 + 2 O2 → CO2 + 2 H2O + Energy
2 CH4 + 3 O2 → 2 CO + 4 H2O + Energy
It's been a while since chemistry, but at high densities of oxygen it is possible for air to combust. O2 reacting with another compound in the air I think? It happened in the latest Futurama holiday special, and that show doesn't lie!
Regardless, it takes two different compounds for a combustion reaction. Trying to burn a hydrocarbon without oxygen will produce the same result as vice versa: nothing.
It is impossible to prevent coal from burning without removing O2 from the surrounding air, so the point is moot; we are back to the air being too thin to burn and too thin to breathe. I suggested an alternative in the above wall of text. Good hunting!
These are more accurate combustion equations:
CH4 + 2 O2 → CO2 + 2 H2O + Energy
2 CH4 + 3 O2 → 2 CO + 4 H2O + Energy
Technically these are different equations. Both are technically possible. I simplified my example to make the explanation clearer. ;D

I was talking about oxygen itself, but yes. I believe it is the Nitrogen, which makes up roughly 71% of our air's content.

Quite correct.

It could be done by making the air too damp. With too much water vapour in the air, the concentration of oxygen can become so low that coal is difficult to light, (once it gets burning, it likely will stay burning, but getting it to start is the key) so this could be another alternative.

Technically, but you still have to take into account that most combustions end up making CO2 and H2O. That's just chemistry for ya.
Yeah, I know that. I was just posting an over-simplified example to explain how combustion actually works without getting too bogged-down in the reality of it.
Not sure if this has been posted or if this is what they're doing, but I think it would be cool if gravitite armor reversed the players gravity.
it would have its uses, but using it at open sky would probably get you killed, and it might get hard walking around caves with that. Thus, most fights (i suppose...) happens outside caves or mines, making its "armor" function almost useless. But i like your thinking, and maybe instead of reversing your gravity it could make you jump higher or float a little, or maybe even reduce gravity.
I have to say that i'm VERY glad you are waiting until it is done right. When you add it all at once it makes the effect of new content so much greater.
you guys having trouble keeping up with updates?
Cant wait for this to be out, i am so excited to start capturing a moa or watching swets and slimes fight.
Why exactly is everyone hating on Aerwhale nests?
It's not like Aerwhales are real creatures known to not have nests. Where is the down side to having them?
I do however agree with whoever recommended changing golden orbs to amber orbs (GreyAcumen?). As always though, it's up to the creators.
Also, stop asking if it's going to be released soon (you know who you are), or implying that you're somehow impatient about it. It's a rather massive project, and the creators have already kindly informed us of their troubles with lighting and such.
Cripes, it's going to be free! Why so many people seem to have such a sense of entitlement makes no sense to me whatsoever.

Aesth (Eh-Ss-TH)
One of the blocks (I don't remember the names, maybe holy blocks, maybe even a whole new block!) could be used to make this item. It would require a secret ingredient that would be extremely rare. Like diamond but 10x as rare. This ingredient would be called Graystone. You could use Graystone to create the Aesth block. It's a really bright block that is a one time use. If you have the Aesth in your inventory and you are pushed off or die in the Aether, your screen will go white instead of showing the game over thing and you will go back to the closest Aether portal entrance (meaning your on the outside). You will have 3 hearts left. The only items you will have when this happens is the items in your hotbar*. As I've said before this will be extremely hard to obtain as Graystone is almost unobtainable. * The only explanation that I could think of is that your items flew out of your backpack but remained in your pockets.
I've redone the Aesth suggestion a little bit. And for those who are saying that the bed acts as a spawn point, I didn't know that.

I'm sad about the golden clouds because you could make traps, floating bridges, fast staircases, etc. with them.
I even came up with a trap:
[] [] [] []
[] [] [] [] [] [] [] []
[] [] [] [] [] [] [] []
where is a sign and is a golden cloud.

The oxygen is just enough to maintain life but not enough for a comfortable sleep.
