and id like you guys to consider changing the moas. either make them very uncommen, make them gliding more than flying (i expressed this idea in a posta little while ago) or make the things that are required to tame them hard to get. i like the balance of the Pegasus of the mo' creature mod. a very rare tamable flying mob. and since this and mo' creature are gonna be 2 of the best mods out in minecraft once this is released it wouldnt exactly be fair to just be able to go to the aether to get your flying pet. how about griffens or something of that sort?
Moas are pretty rare, and taming require aechor petals. To get aechor petals, you must defeat the poisonous aechor plant, which I guess is a bit challenging, since you start moving in random directions (like when riding a pig) when hit by their poison.
mm thats better i guess excuse my ignorance. but still the way their doing moas is not the originial way that firhazurd suggested it (viewtopic.php?f=1&t=103146) he said the same thing i did that moas in the aether should jump high and glide. and firehazurd was also the genius who created zephyrs and aerwhales. he didnt design these birds to be able to fly around. they look at their small wings. this is why i think girffens would be better. make em rare. and the taming process could be very exciting. my idea is to make em have 25 health and you have to fight with one and get it to its last 5 health before it will stop attacking you and lie back. at this point you heal it, put on your saddle, and your good to go! not agressive unless attacked.
Yadda yadda about wanting it to come out, defending the modders from trolls, etc.
Now that the "formalities" are out of the way, I'd like to throw in my two cents.

the only reason i dislike the idea of the nether portals is that they destroy the beatiful landscape. I mean, you should make these really rare i you ask me, because i dont want the aether to become a blasted warzone D: I mean, in theory the whole explored aether would eventually become destroyed in time due to this :/ so yea, good idea, but i dont think its worth the destruction caused. Maybe they can just fight? or somehow the zephyrs fix the landscape ruined? just my thoughts ;
I agree with flip40 on this one. Though highly dangerous, as stated by King a bit earlier, the Aether is bound to be a beautiful place. While the idea of Portal Storms does sound appealing, and the little backstory is interesting, I wouldn't want these events to occur too often. I don't know if it's just me, but I see the Aether as somewhat of a "getaway", and seeing the "patches" of Nether everywhere would somewhat ruin the "purity" of the landscape.
Once again, I don't disagree with the idea of having the little war between the realms, but I hope it is not very prevalent.
But yeah, anyway, there's my two cents, for what they're worth (two cents). Keep up the good work guys, don't let the nonbelievers get you down, you've got loads of support!
While the name might be a little misleading (Aechor Plant), these mobs actually originate from the Nether. I'm quite keen on the idea of subtle stories within Minecraft, so I've been playing around with a few plots for the mod. There are two plains: the Nether, which is a network of desolate, fiery caverns filled with bloodstained Cobblestone and sticky Soulsand which lies beneath the very soil of our Minecraft world, and the Aether, which is a collection of floating plains and islands, all connected together to create an opposite dimension of the skies. As you already know, these two plains are completely opposite in almost every way. A subtle plot idea that I had was that the blocks, creatures and shadows of the Nether all have an urge to "Plague" and "Spread" to anything which is pure. In some rare areas of the Aether, you would find small patches of Netherrack and Soulsand which have been placed there by Nether creatures in effort to corrupt the surrounding environment. On these patches you'll find large, poisonous vegetation: otherwise known as Aechor Plants (I might change the name now, since it does really sound like a plant which originates from the Aether). I also plan to have rare "weather" events called "Portal Storms". Basically, dark shadows will start forming in that particular area and Nether portal blocks will appear in random locations. Ghasts and other planned flying Nether creatures will escape from the portals and destroy blocks in the area (still no direct damage, since these Ghasts will be another entity which only destroys blocks). In retaliation, warriors of the Aether called Valkyries will slowly fight off the flood of monsters and then the event will end. Another idea I had was that Glowstone actually originates from the Aether, and the only reason you find them in the Nether is because it is an effort of the Valkyries to "purify" the Nether (so in a way both areas are trying to take over the other). I could either see you really hating this idea, or being "okay" with it. I'm going to guess you dislike it, but I'm really in favor of it because I really feel that the player needs some more interaction with its environment. Being able to help Valkyries fight off indirect damaging (but still deadly) Ghasts in order to speed up the retaliation is a very good way to motivate the player to interact with such events.
this would be pretty cool. im guessing your adding more mobs to the nether since itd be pretty boring just having ghasts fighting valkyries. i like the idea that lightstone originates in the aether however shouldnt you then make lightstone also in the aether, and how will players be able to know this? possibly make books in dungeon chests which will give you a little peace of aether/nether history? (this would require adding readable books). and would valkyries reward you if you say helped them get rid of the nether pests? and would valkyries inhabit the nether?

Obvious bait was obvious. Easiest way to deal with these types of posters is just to ignore them.
On another note, I'm very curious now about the King Aerwhale now that you said it has horns. Aernarwhal lol. I see him smashing you into a floating mountain just for trying to attack his majesty's nest.
I approve most of those ideas. Except the netherrack patches thing and the portal storms. I would hate that. I would abolish that. The intention is good, but i don't wanna have ghasts to ruin the aether.
The current Nether (in Vanilla Minecraft) is a lot less dangerous than the Aether. The Aether has so many environmental hazards and mobs which are trying to kill you that, when it comes down to, the Aether isn't such a friendly place after all. If you're afraid that the Ghasts will make the Aether harder, then be assured it won't.
However, since it already has all of those environmental hazards and mobs, it wouldn't be a good idea to add another one. It sounds more like something that should be happening in the Nether; Ghasts start attacking the ceiling, and the Valkries rain and trying to purify the Nether as well as expand their territory while the creatures of the Nether continue to try to reach the overworld (the next step up to the Aether, their ultimate goal). Obviously this situation is exaggerated, but a much simpler version for a later revision could be coded in. This would make the Nether a very interesting place and give it its own "edge" like the overworld has dungeons and the Aether has temples. It would also be something you would really want to see, giving the players much more incentive to go to the Nether even after they've gotten to the Aether.
I'm going to make a large 10x30x10 room that has a Nether portal on one end and a Aether portal on the other. I already completed the nether half but i'm going to wait till the mod comes out before i make the other half. (mainly because i dont have aether blocks but also what if they change glowstone to something else, everyones gonna be pissed >.<)
Instead of portal storms, I think there should be randomly generated (but still rare) areas that are always being 'invaded' by the nether. Like, you have a very large nether portal, with lava and **** around it, netherack around it, soulsand, all that ****, with zombiepigmen that are automatically hostile, a ghast or two, and then an aether portal not to far, thats also very large, where your Valkyries and such spawn from, and attack the nether portal and mobs. Also, have a ground mob for the Aether to attack zombie pigmen, and try to get these areas perfectly balanced so the battle never ends unless the play interacts. Perhaps even Aether bosses that spawn and attack a custom-made Nether boss (or a ghast)?
While the name might be a little misleading (Aechor Plant), these mobs actually originate from the Nether. I'm quite keen on the idea of subtle stories within Minecraft, so I've been playing around with a few plots for the mod. I LOVE that! You've gotta add that (except maybe in later versions of the mod, because impatient people are impatient and everything in this quote would take more time to code for).
Maybe, you can also create objects (like stone tablets or something more Aether-like) that tell small parts of Aether-Nether history. If people don't care for that kind of stuff, they can just simply discard the item upon discovery. (In case you haven't noticed, I'm a big fan of this kind of sub-story stuff)

he specifically said that the portal storm (the portal blocks AREN'T everlasting) would be there like a storm on the regular world (earth?) also they would ONLY appear on the nether contaminated blocks (also VERY rare)
but enough ranting the ranters now for some ideas

There are times when I feel like both the luckiest and unluckiest man in the universe.
i hope that they release the portal storms in a later update. while it would make the mod 100,000,000 times better
it can wait. in the mean time finish the things on the list and give us a pre-alpha version!
or mabey a "estimated" release date.
this will cut down on pepole whining about it not getting released (me in this post)
this mod will be great especialy if your still planing on updating the nether along with it!
for you =)

I actually really like this idea. It adds a bit of a story to Minecraft, and adds something different to the game as a whole.
I agree that changing the name of the Aechor plant might be good to reduce confusion. :tongue.gif: Perhaps Infernoid Plant? (lame, yes, but it fits with the hellish theme).
I kinda want to see what the Valkyries will look like now, since they'll be contrasting the Ghasts basically.
Keep up the awesome work! =)

Oh. My. God. I love this! Please please let me know when this is finished and playable, I'd love to put it to use on single player, but if this were set for multi..my god that would be so epic! For you my imaginative friend, !!!
but please, Make the Nether also a bit interesting!
like, you need something from the Nether to build a Portal to the Aether.
A new, really Rare Block.
or you can craft Items out of Materials from the Nether AND the Aether.
Keep up the Good Work!
I hope this Mod is going to be F***in GOOD!
