Soul runes are the first part of VoodooCraft. They're the basis for the rest of the mod, although currently they're the only part of the mod. Mobs now have a 1 in 10 chance of dropping a soul or two (yes, two) and if you combine the soul with a clay rune, using soul sand:
you get a soul rune. All runes will break when exposed to redstone power, and soul runes will spawn the mob whose soul you used when broken! For instance, this:
will spawn a pig when the switch is flipped!
Oh, and you can craft 9 souls in a square into a soul block:
I don't think you should be able to collect souls from the very start. The only use they would have near the beginning is as fuel, and that would be a little TOO good, getting fuel just for doing what your doing anyway. Although you haven't said how good a fuel it is yet, but I digress.
I was thinking, maybe they shouldn't normally drop souls, that just doesn't seem normal. Instead, have a new tool, a Soul Collector, that lets you do it. I was thinking that Soul Sand could be used to do that. Basically, it can be crafted onto a diamond sword, and when used, it will cause the mobs to drop souls. Alternatively, maybe be able to eat them? It is voodoo after all. Stealing souls and using them to unnaturally extend your own life doesn't seem to far fetched.
Also, it seems like kinda a waste if you loose all that gold on the runes. Kinda too expensive for a trap. Is it like TNT where it destroys itself, and thats it? Or is it like a torch in water where it just deconstructs itself? I feel it should probably be the latter. Maybe even make it so that all of them should drop blank runes when destroyed. IE, if you turn on the switch to summon a pig, the pig rune breaks, a pig is summoned, and a blank rune is left on the ground, broken.
Wow, thanks for all of the input.
Souls are not very good fuel. They last a little longer than wood. Although I think the harder a soul is to collect, the longer it would last. You know, a Ghast soul would burn for a really long time, whereas a chicken soul would be like a stick.
As for dropping souls regularly, I was actually thinking about that. I just don't know exactly how that would work. I'm still a little new to modding. I will try to add more uses for souls as I work on this, though.
Oh, by the way, the drop rate is 1 in 10.
Eating souls sounds like fun, actually. I'll see if I can do that.
Right now I have the runes breaking, but now that you mention it, it is kind of a waste of gold. I'll make them drop blank runes. Good idea.
Looks nice. Are you ever going to have, say runes that teleport? Like, connect redstone in between them to connect them after powering the redstone, and then the redstone disappears and then whenever you touch the rune, you teleport to the other rune. (the redstone would still need to be powered if it was over 16 long).
@Drsaz Delons incident? I assume I don't want to know what that is. In an effort to keep it that way, I'll try to get a beta released ASAP. IDK if a beta's really necessary, it isn't really having any problems right now, but I promise that you'll be able to play it soon. One big thing that I need is for the new version of MCP to be released... but it should be up soon after that.
@Caleb Ooh, I like that idea. I think I'll try to do that.
@gamey353 I like that recipe. I really don't know how I'd only let mobs drop souls if you were holding that, though... but I will try to figure it out, ok?
