Well then by the looks of the change in name of the thread I can assume the op will make it rain lava in hell then, like it should, finally a reason to go to hell in this game
Huh, didn't it used to snow once in Minecraft? I can vividly remember starting my second world in a snowy biome and snow flakes fell from the sky, it looked really pretty at night. Now whenever I go to a Snowy Place, It never snows
Anyways, this looks awesome. Can't wait for Monday, here, have a pig
Well then this is looking promising, and i have an idea that's more common sense than anything really but it might've slipped your mind during your endeavors
When you place a bucket in snowy places it collects either a block of snow or snowballs
Why not have a certain umbrella where you place it on the ground to protect your torches from burning out? That way, :SSSS:'s won't spawn on your lawn during a thunderstorm.
Now more than ever I say we should have lanterns, not only that but maybe the rain should last a random amount of time. A monsoon/storm/hurricane could last 6 days with nonstop rain with 1-2 days of rain being average for a rainforest or forest region and beach region. Snow days on average last 4 days with a maximum of 8 on tundra, high altitudes and the forest. the plains are just always sunny with a few "summer rains".
Here's what I'm thinking
stone lantern recipe
It produces 4 lanterns lasts 2 days
Iron lantern
It produces 4 lanterns lasts 4 days
Gold lantern
Produces 6 lanterns lasts 8 days
Diamond lantern
Lasts forever and it gives you a good amount of lanterns too (8? 10? 16?)
this is really interesting :biggrin.gif:! I can't waiiit to see it, ive wanted rain in minecraft for so long :biggrin.gif:
rain hurting you in the normal world would be so dumb though, dont do that plz
This is a great idea and it just screams new ideas at me. Ice and snow in normal chests should melt, refrigerated chests are built to prevent that and are powered by, I don't know, maybe redstone.
Perhaps a way to heat the ground in an area to prevent snow from accumulating there.
Umbrellas with torches built into them (combined with the handheld torches mod).

where = redstone dust
A water bucket placed in a cold biome (maybe only in a snowstorm) should turn into an ice bucket, usable for an empty bucket and a block of ice.
Flowers should die in the cold, also wheat should grow more slowly if at all.
Maybe furnaces could take slightly longer to smelt if they're left outside in a cold biome, maybe 11 seconds per item instead of 10, or maybe add 5 seconds to heat up before smelting the first item.
Similarly, furnaces in lava rain might run faster, or even run without fuel.
Obviously wheat and flowers should burn in lava rain, but what about live cacti? Would lava rain make refrigerated chests more difficult to keep cold? Would lava rain automatically cook meat dropped on the ground? Would it set off all TNT in the area?

Speaking of lanterns, "why"?
If it's about rain, just put a block over your outdoor torches? :l
I have to say Logan, that is quite the sig here is a few 's for you sir. I would buy you a beer but I currently can not make any with this or yet...
I agree. Lanterns are a nice idea but if you rabbit trail away from the origional concept too much you will lose sight of your project. Get rain/snow/ect stable... then work on features :biggrin.gif: I used to snow and rain in the game during alpha, however, it was linked to the memory leak issue so Notch set it aside while he worked to make the game more stable. I believe we are all eager to see this feature return to the game. Could you convert this to an hMod plugin?
You should allow water to seep through certain weak materials, and make something to patch up the leaks in your roof. Therefore there will always be some work to do around the house.
If Notch opens his eyes and checks this forum a tiny, tiny bit more regularly he will have many, MANY ideas on how to improve his game. I thought Beta was MILES away...

@Spart I think it will catch snow, which could be used for refrigeration at a later date.
