This is to serve as the ultimate FAQs -- if you can't follow the instructions here, then I recommend this alternate resource
Before we begin, here are a few quick points to cover:
[*:qddpafsb]#risucraft is not for help installing mods, do not go there, give up or keep trying using the instructions.
[*:qddpafsb]Do not ask for a non-modloader version of things, modloader is important for a lot of mods, don't be stupid.
[*:qddpafsb]If you have been sent here from another thread, boy do I have news for you ...
In the next series of pictures and words, I will be covering several topics: Why won't this mod work?
That is a good, legitimate question. There are several reasons a mod may not work.
[*:qddpafsb]The mod may not be for the version of minecraft you are using.
[*:qddpafsb]Minecraft updated between the time you downloaded or installed the mod.
[*:qddpafsb]You did not install the mod properly.
How do I know if the mod is for my minecraft version?
As of late, most mod authors tend to keep what version of minecraft their mods are for in the first post of their thread. You can determine the latest version of minecraft by starting minecraft and looking in the top left corner.
Look around for that series of numbers and junk in the post. If you experience difficulty reading, please use the following document: at this site.
What do I do if minecraft updated between the time I downloaded or installed the mod?
You wait for the author of the mod to update it. Don't bug them about it, give them three or so days. Seriously, don't bother them about it. They know that the mods have broken. Don't make a new request thread about it, don't start posting in a bunch of other topics. Sit your happy ass down and find another game for that period of time.
But how do I know if I installed the mod properly?
You're going to have to use some magical form of locating your .minecraft folder.
If your computer has one mouse button, navigate to "~/Library/Application\ Support/minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar" by pasting it in your safari sherlock jungle hunter.
If you're on linux, just make your supreme file manager point you at "~/.minecraft" and gracious, you're there already.
If you bought your alienware elite gaming rig equipped with microsoft operating system version one billion with like bling on it and all that then navigate to "%appdata%/.minecraft"
If you don't know how to copy and paste those underlined values into the navigation bar of your file browser then hold your head under water for two minutes.
Hold your head under for three minutes if you included quotes when you pasted it in.
Now you need to, very carefully, click on the bin folder inside of where you just navigated to.
But I'm not using windows operating system!
I don't care, this is a general guide, if your folder has these other jars in it, then you are in the right place.
Now open the jar. This means opening it with an archive program. This means you right click it, select open with, then hover over your archive program. I don't care if your archive program is 7z or bagelsupremearchiver, stuff it and figure out how to use the damn archive program your dense self selected. Real men use "WinRAR". If you are heterosexually challenged a user of the mac operating system, google search "macrar". If you are a member of the penguin supremacy, then download the binaries off the winrar site, install them, and use file roller to handle it. You don't belong on linux if you don't know how to do that / have not already done that. If you are still too dense to process what has just been said, invest time in looking up the "Minecrafter" tool for handling mods, since your baby brain can't follow step by step instructions.
I heard from a little homoerotic bird that some macs have trouble working with the minecraft jar because it makes a bunch of invisible index files that are absolutely useless in this context. Tell your operating system to knock it off and commence verbal abuse until it submits.
If you see this folder, then you didn't follow instructions and you should punch yourself square in the nose. Some archive managers won't let you delete from an archive. No, I'm not going to give you specific instructions on how to use your incompetent archive manager, figure it out or get a better one.
Redownload the mod you wanted and extract the folder, if it has a README in it, guess what your happy ass should do? That's right! Commit suicid-- READ THE DAMN THING. No, I don't care if you don't want to. If you want your camel_humping_v42b then you will read it, you will like it, you will take notes, and you will pass the written exam to be administered after the mandatory material review time is over.
If there is a folder that says resources, drag that into the directory that is outside of your minecraft.jar.
If it looks something like this, then just drag it inside the same area as this one and allow it to overwrite folders (and files).
If it does not have any resource folders or files, drag everything inside of the minecraft.jar from the previous image. DRAG THE FILES FROM THE EXTRACTED ARCHIVE, INTO THE MINECRAFT.JAR THAT IS OPENED BY YOUR ARCHIVE MANAGER.
IT LOOKS LIKE THIS, THAT IS EVERYTHING, EVERY FILE, ALL OF THEM.
And there you have it! You have troubleshot your minecraft mod installation, now stop bothering people and get on with your life.
Mod edit: I am going to lock this thread, you can NOT make a thread with the intention of helping users by blatantly insulting them. You are welcome to make this thread in a polite manner. As you can see, threads like this aren't going to achieve anything but a flame war.
The OP will be warned for flaming and flame baiting.
This might have been a useful thread if it wasn't for the sarcasm. No one likes to be insulted. I don't care if they are noobs, stupid, or illiterate. Ok, so your tired of answering the same old questions. That's still no reason to insult peoples intelligence. The main reason people put someone down is to raise themselves up, if only for a moment.

I'm afraid you are mistaken, there are no intentional insults in this thread. Just politically correct terms used to assist in the troubleshooting of mods. I appreciate your efforts to better this FAQs but I suggest reflecting upon the subject matter more before attempting to contribute.
I wasn't trying to contribute to the betterment of the faq. I was merely pointing out your condescending attitude. I suggest you reflect upon the word condescending.
I suggest you two stop bickering, and that you, Joker, reflect upon the word humor.

He's right, I looked at this because I had a few problems with game-breaking mods and this DID NOT HELP, after reading this all I thought was "what sad idiot wrote this thinking they know more this me". BTW I dont care if you dont like mac, while I dont use it and like windows more, I dont want to lisen to a 12 year old saying "OLOLOLOL IF YOUR HOMOSEXUAL LOL I SAID IT OLOLOL I mean use macs"
I seriously cant belive all these people saying its epic win, If you say its epic win its because you went LOL YOUR AN IDIOT BECAUSE YOU HAVE PROBLEMS INSTALLING MODS.
FAQ are designed to be helpful and NOT to be a bitchfest where you try to be funny by insulting everybodys inteligence.
Im on jokers side, what humour? This threa is pure stupid. I suggest the OP never posts here again for our health and so he can learn for starters how to make proper FAQ's.

How to feel cool on Minecraft forums:
>New Feature is announced
>Begin claiming it ruins the game "MINECRAFT ISN'T A BED/DOG/HAVING FUN SIMULATOR, IT'S ABOUT STANDING IN YOUR HOUSE WITH NOTHING TO DO ALL DAY REMOVE EVERY FEATURE GUH"
Newe6000, you really have no idea what you're talking about. You don't even realize how annoying it is when people say:
"hurr durr wi dusnt ur mood wurk on my computr!?"
Yeah. Really annoying.
It's not an intentional insult against Macs. It's the simple fact that people whine that our mods don't work on their Macs, which is not our fault. But instead they blame us and say:
"zomg ur mods **** it dusnt work on macs!"
LOL YOUR AN IDIOT BECAUSE YOU HAVE PROBLEMS INSTALLING MODS.
If someone can't even learn how to install a mod, they really don't deserve to be on a computer. It's practically drag and drop, and we already make it as easy as possible.
