This module provides a couple of blocks. Well three. Two are interchangeable and considered one block for game purposes.
These blocks are set up for minecraft version 1.2.6. I'm sorry Apple guys. I'm assuming you're using Windows for the setup of this mod.
Here's the shoddy, poorly-composed, amateur youtube video. Check past the credits for some fun stuff you can do using these blocks and Cryect's jump block.
These blocks are multipurpose and can be used for traps and for roads, depending on whether they are powered or not. Yes. You can actually consider using all that redstone dust you've been accumulating.
Warning. Mobs especially creepers are also given speed bonuses with these blocks.
ATTENTION:
1. Please try these blocks IN A NEW WORLD. I've tested them in my worlds but I'm willing to take the risk. I'd hate to screw up all the work you've done.
2. I'm just starting modding so I have no idea who's compatible with what etc. Please do not add these blocks to a minecraft.jar file you've already modded. You've been warned.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Make a backup of your minecraft.jar file in your users/appdata/Roaming/.minecraft/bin and place it in a safe folder hopefully labeled with the Notch's current minecraft version which is 1.2.6. This will help you later on if things get screwed up.
2. Download and open the following file using winrar.
3. Open the minecraft.jar file in users/appdata/roaming/.minecraft/bin using winrar in a separate window. Go down to the META-INF folder. DELETE THIS FOLDER PLEASE.
4. Drag the 4 files you downloaded (3 should be named RoadblockV or what have you) into your minecraft.jar.
Done.
The first block is made using 1 block granite, 1 block coal, and one block gravel. As long as it is powered or surrounded on all sides by blocks it will be fine. Otherwise it disintegrates. A stable slew of these blocks makes you run about 2 times faster then normal. These blocks have a lot of multiplayer potential but for now are more useful as cheap roads/pathways.
The second block is made using 1 block granite, 1 block redstone dust, and one block slowsand from the nether. This block turns into quicksand if it has three or more blocks underneath it which are empty AND it doesn't detect a power source within 3 blocks directly east/west/north/south of it's location. This block makes you run at least three times faster then normal. The quicksand can be turned on and off behind walls with redstone switches/plates etc. as long as you have one space beside one block empty (see video).
Oh. The second block has two phases. The blocks are interchangeable. If you have trouble switching back to a road block from the quicksand phase, either put some blocks underneath and then attach a block to it OR add redstone current.
I like this mod! Though how hard would it be to make more classes, say, a diamond middle-tile roadblock that made you run at x10 speed? :biggrin.gif: Might have a go at that jump pad idea as well, seeing as I want to start making mods as well... Unless you got that from somewhere else? Awesome job anyway.
Thanks! Not that hard really. It took me about 3 weeks to do this and I've not Java programming experience, tho i've programmed in other languages. The MCP IS GOD. The problem with really high speeds though is that a certain part you hit infinity and end up just loading somewhere with no idea how you got there and no idea how to get home. This is fun <once>. A better idea would be to get mounts to work (e.g. the pig mod that makes you run two times normal speed) with this mod. As almost every mob and item that moves in the world seems to be an entity, and this mod manipulates entities it shouldn't be that hard. But don't quote me on that.
I have to admit, this is a pretty interesting a idea for a mod; it even managed to work on mah mac =D
But anyways, the only real criticism I have is that this mod seems a little... tedius. Maybe I'm just missing the point, but these blocks seem to work in a fairly complicated manner. But! They do indeed serve their purpose well. It's really more the quicksand one that seems a bit complicated; the road block is practical and easy to use. Keep up the good work!
You could use it to make a moat around you're base. Whenever you decide to leave, you just power on the moat, and stroll leisurely (albeit quickly) out of your base. However, if you're chased back in by a mob, flip the switch, and the mob drops down into your pre-made pit trap. You can then take them out at your convenience from behind a glass wall.

The only thing worse than Creepers? Zombie Creepers. After exploding, they come back from the dead to explode again. And again. And again.
This is amazing! just out of curiosity, if you land on an off quicksand block, then sink through, do you still have fall damage? another question, can you make it so that your trap is invisible, ie it doesn't suddenly look like coal on top when off?

They could make great test subjects for those of us racking our brain about how to thwart the nooby menace. You could call it 'anti-greif research'.

Epic! Is this compatible with other mods? (I'm particurly thinking of teh Extended music mod)
