You know, one of the first things that popped into my mind when playing Minecraft was "Holy crap what is that it just exploded in my face that was scary", but one of the second things that popped into my mind was "I haven't really done this much First Person Platforming since Mirror's Edge." And then I discovered the accessibility of modifying the game. This is the product of my discovery so far.
Mirror's Edge had a very unique art style, with a very minimalistic color palette. For those who hadn't played this fantastic first person parkour adventure, the visuals marked important objects in the scenery in a very strong red color which stood out from the otherwise very white urban environments. That's what I tried to replicate more or less with the strong red colors contrasted with bleak smooth stone colors. While Minecraft lacks the speed/momentum of Mirror's Edge, it definitely has a lot of platforming, and if you add in Mirror's Edge's art style with Minecraft's platforming, what could possibly go wrong?
You can check out a full list of documented changes to Minecraft inside the zip file, in the ReadMe.
You can also feel free to make improvements and such, especially since I'm artistically inept.
To Do List:
-Change pain voice clips so that Faith doesn't sound manly
-Change in-game music to something from Mirror's Edge
-Learn to draw better sprites
-Change the remaining common blocks seen (Workbench etc.)
-Change UI to be more sleek like Mirror's Edge
-Create a map made just for the mod
-Stop bumping your own thread
EDIT: Screenshots up showing what's changed so far
EDIT: v0.2 uploaded!
EDIT: Added "To Do List"
EDIT: v0.3 uploaded! Updated "To Do List"
EDIT: v0.4 uploaded! Updated "To Do List"
EDIT: Added my first attempt at mapping for MCEdit, be warned that it's very WIP and is unfinished
Inventory screen, note the Faith skin and the removed armor visuals even though my diamond armor is equipped. Also note the red items at the bottom right corner. Respectively from the corner is Redstone, Minecart Track, Hellstone and Redstone Torch. Ignore my newly made diamond tools and lack of any leggings
My first attempt to recreate the Runner Bags from Mirror's Edge. The chests are now replaced with a Yellow/Black/Grey color scheme. It looks pretty meh, hopefully I can do better than this.
Please note this is not in the version of the texture pack that I uploaded. When I have enough improvements and changes, I'll be sure to reupload the improved one.
UPDATE: Some new updates, including simplifying the more commonly seen blocks, and adding a SWAT cop skin for the Skeletons, which go great with the gun! :biggrin.gif:
OMG this is awsome! if you can finish the texture pack and create a map for this. it would be awsome :biggrin.gif:
while minecraft limits running on walls and runin up walls and grabbing ledges. it will be good.
This is my first attempt at mapping with MCEdit, and most of the details were actually made in-game since MCEdit really isn't precise sometimes. Note that's it's extremely work in progress and whipped up in a couple of hours. It showcases an underground tunnel much like in Mirror's Edge, but it's extremely short and is meant to show off what the Skeletons look like with weaponry and to show what a map could look like.
Features:
-Underground tunnel (if you let your creativity sink in, you can see it's remotely related to a Mirror's Edge map)
-Quite possibly 4 seconds of gameplay
-Two "hidden" rooms in the tunnel with Runner Bags with items
-SWAT team skeletons
-A scripted series of explosions
-A bunch of signs that treat you like someone who has no idea what's going on and holds your hand like an unneeded tutorial
-A ladder going to the surface, concluding the demonstration
-If you squint really hard, it looks sort of like Mirror's Edge (I kid, I kid)
:biggrin.gif: the threads alive! ddownloading the map now. hope its good!
heres a
Edit: map was very small. and a lot of problems occured. such as blowing the bottom of the map open. make bottom bedrock to stop that. but otherwise. if u make large maps like that it will be fantastic. and if u make the entire city. it will be beyond epic. JESUS! :biggrin.gif:
Edit2: it was a very small map and it took a long time for me to load it. so idk. fix it sumhow

Smooth dirt texture (also, Faith's hand)
Redstone is now just a smooth red line, also the red pipe ladders in the background (still Faith's hand)
The red door and a block of Hellstone that is entirely red

I haven't played the game, but from the looks of it, it's very similar

lava is red
water is blue
creepers want hugs
and so do you......SSSSS......BOOM!
you should make a map to go with it.
I'm trying to, but I fail at MCEdit, as translation from the mind to the rather clunky application is a bit off.
