About:
This is a new little mod I just started playing around with. I thought it would be neat to make a tool that can make it so that you can offset a block when you place it. For example, when you look at the ground and place a block, instead of placing it right on the ground, it gets placed 2 spaces higher in the air. See this youtube video for a better explanation.
(sorry for the poor video quality, was using a freeware video capture thing i found and it wasn't doing too well)
Keyboard Controls:
Switch axis: BACKSPACE
Increment Offset by +1: EQUALS
Decrement Offset by -1: MINUS
Change Mode: BACKSLASH
Modes(new):
1. "Normal" - Normal operation.
2. "Mirror" - automatically places a second block that has the inverted offset of the first block.
3. "Dual Offset" - allows you to choose two offsets, and two blocks will be placed instead of one.
*Note: Mirror mode has SubModes, there are Mirror_X, Mirror_Y, Mirror_XY, etc... which determine which axis(s) mirror mode will mirror.
ChangeLog: v0.3 - v0.4.1

Initial Release
Supported Minecraft Version: 1.2.6
Requires Risugami's Mod Loader!
If you need to install Risugami's Mod Loader, its now included in the patcher as a separate patch. Choose it from the drop down box in the patcher.
Perfect. Its a great tool can be used for many things although i don't see my self using it. Very Good Job.
4/5 Diamonds:
Reason: It would be more appealing if it launched with Minecraft or was Implemented within Minecraft.
It does launch with minecraft, every time you open up minecraft, the little box pops up.
I love the idea, but, do you think you could make keys do certain things? Because having to click the other screen in kind of annoying.
Yup, planning on eventually doing this.

Doesn't seem to work in SMP, it places it at the right height at first, but then is moved to the ground.
100 if you can fix this :biggrin.gif:
Not sure if I'm going to be able to get it to work in multiplayer without modifying the server. This is still a prototype, and I will be playing around with it to see what I can get it to do :smile.gif:
Ok, after looking through the minecraft code a bit more I was able to figure out how to make this work for multiplayer :biggrin.gif:
So v0.2 is uploaded now, and supports multiplayer and also uses the patcher from my other mod (see my sig) so that you don't have to manually touch the minecraft.jar anymore :smile.gif:
Ok, this has been updated to v0.3. It now uses Risugami's Mod Loader and has ingame text that tells you block offsets. Also uses keyboard input now, see the Keyboard Controls section in the OP for details. Report any bugs you find here, thanks. :smile.gif:
Just a question, but what happens if you place a block with an offset, and the location that the block would appear in is already filled with a different block?
Nothing, it just fails to place the block. You don't loose it from your inventory either.
Ok this is pretty darn cool. GJ with it. One question though....
Let's say I configure it so that it places the block one space below my target place. If I then try and place a block on solid ground, what happens? :S
What the hell... I have v.1.2.5 and updated the minecraft.jar file as stated, but it makes my game crash as soon as I try to place a block.

I use the installer as that's the old file in the .rar
I install it, run game, place block and crashes my client.
Help?
Can you guys post your crash log in this thread? It's really hard to determine whats wrong without it. Also, if you had v0.2 installed previously and you clicked "restore backup" in the patcher you may have restored to the older version of minecraft itself, which isn't going to work right (I'm going to try to fix this in a future patcher version), if this is the case you will need to delete your version file under the .minecraft folder and have minecraft re-download itself.

Ah good. Means you cant accidently destroy blocks you dont want to.
Perhaps an extension of this would be a duplication feature which you could enable/disable with a different key. You could start building here, and it would duplicate what you are placing at a given offset, so long as you have the materials to do it.
You could build a wall of a house and have to opposite wall build itself identically.
You could offset of 1 block and build a double set of steps.
You could build a piece of redstone crcuitry that you want multiple copies of and have it duplicate itself nearby. (Cannons/Memory Cells)
This is a excellent idea, almost like a mirror mode that would basically just reverse the offset on the other side. The most thorough way to do it would be just to have a whole second set of offsets, but even just a mirror mode would be cool. I'll look into doing this, maybe I can have 3 different modes, "normal", "mirror", and "second offset".
I forgot to post this yesterday... v0.4.1 is out and it brings new features and MC v1.2.6 compatibility. There are now three different "modes" to the mod: Normal, Mirror, and Dual offset. Normal works just like before, choose a offset and place a block. Mirror mode will automatically invert the offset you choose and place a second block at that offset. Finally, Dual offset mode lets you place two blocks at two offset's that are completely independent of each other. As a side note, Mirror mode has a bunch of different SubModes (Mirror_X, Mirror_Y, Mirror_XY etc...) which determine which axis's are mirrored.
Great mod! This is just what I need to make stairs for my hotel. A cool feature would be if you could break blocks this way. For example:
= Block being hit
= Block that will break
= Grass
= Dirt
[] = Air
= Player
It is EPIC program for a building!
It works for all?
I mean, torches, red-stone dust, put water block from bucket, or pick up water block in to bucket???
SRY, about my Eng. )))
