this looks amazing so i followed the instructions to the teeth andthere was a no show in the game, whats wrong?
I did delete the meta-inf folder (there is another meta-inf folder in: jinput, lwjgl, lwjgl_util, should delete those to?
Another thing is that i have vista and when i dragged the files into the folder i was asked to either keep both files or delete the orginal files, I tried both and redownloaded minecraft in between theses two tries. Deleteing the orginal files didn't work, so when I kept both files The new ones had a (2) after the name. should i try a different mod loader?
This mod looks so cool, would really like to use it!!!
i used the ingame texture pack thing, clicked the open texture folder, and it led me to the files, thats the only way so far to do it, as Appdata dosent exist on my comp (it does, but i cant find it)
C:\Documents and Settings\"your name or class"
Go to Tools>Folder Options>View and set it to show hidden folders.
Go into Appdata or Roaming\Appdata, it differs between vista and XP I think.
i did, all tools has is a button that says "synchronize" i think im screwed now

this is a school comp, the only way to access the files is to have the game send u to them via the "open texture folder" button
No it isn't. If the game can open that folder for you, you have access to it.
Open "My Documents", go to the address bar, and type %appdata%/.minecraft
If that doesn't work, have the game open the texture folder, and go up 1 folder.
Psycho fox, open my computer, open c, and click in the location bar. It should show up as c:\. Type so it is c:\Users\[your account name]\Appdata\roaming\.minecraft\bin\ and hit enter. (location might be slightly different on XP or 7. I do not know how to install it on macs)
If it is invisible, then it could be one of a few things. If you are using a texture pack through the in game manager, you need to use the defualt texture or add the items_overlay to the items.png in that skin, resizing it to match the resolution. If you are on the default skin, it must have been added incorrectly.
I would make an auto-installer if I knew enough code to do so.
It's fairly trivial to make .bat or .sh that is little more then a tutorial in script form. But I don't know enough about windows to give any help with that, but I assume there is a command line jar tool on windows, which is all you need.

Can you please explain to me why after doing everything you said in the original post, I load minecraft and login, and only get a black screen. I have no mods other than yours loaded.

Did you delete the meta-inf folder and install modloader?
lol, I messed up a few times, then realized I kept ADDING the item_overlay to the .jar, even after merging the layers and saving the new .png
So far, I've found it funny to hook myself with it then try to pull myself XD

YOUR MINECRAFT ACCOUNT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY, TREAT IT AS IF IT WERE A WAD OF CASH.
Did you delete the meta-inf folder and install modloader?
Yes, I placed the mod loader files in minecraft.jar and then placed the hookshot files into minecraft.jar, not including items_overlay.png, and then I deleted META-INF from minecraft.jar and added the overlay to the \gui\items.png file.
ousire, try this: Delete the minecraft.jar and start minecraft to download the original minecraft.jar files. Then close minecraft and open the minecraft.jar. Delete the meta-inf folder, and drag in modloader. Then start minecraft. If it doesn't work, then something is not working with the modloader version you are using. If you aren't using the one I linked to in the first post, try that one. If you are, try 303's modloader.
i tried to run it with nothing but the mod loader and still got black screen. i downloaded 303's modloader and tried it there too and still it didnt work. i really dont get what the hell must be going wrong

303's arrow mods, and other item mods are capable of pulling images from individual image files, why not reprogram this in that way so that I don't have to go through every single texture mod I have and add your hookshot in?
