None of the mods are updated for the latest update.
Mods have still not been updated, however, I have made a mod to cause the items made through the hookshot mod and staff mod display as a questionmark item that does nothing. It can be downloaded here.
Mod Installation Instructions:
First:
If you don't have WinRar or 7zip, download 7zip here.
Now go to the Start menu.
Click the option "Run"
Type in %appdata%
If you have Windows XP, go to .minecraft
If you have Vista/7, go to roaming then to .minecraft
Now go into the bin folder, select the Minecraft.jar and copy (CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) to make a back up.
Once done, right click the original minecraft.jar and select Open With > 7zip (or winrar)
If done right, this should open up a new window with all the contents of minecraft.jar in the 7zip or winrar window.
Drag the files from the downloaded mods into the window, and then hit "ok" if anything pops up.
Last but not least, delete or rename the META-INF folder (ONLY IN THE MINECRAFT.JAR YOU'RE EDITING) and then exit out of the 7zip/winrar window.
Run the game, and see if it works.
If you did this correctly, you should be able to play any of the mods.
For the items.png, if you use a custom texture pack edit it into with a free program called Paint.Net, drag the items.png of your texture pack (or the original minecraft items.png) into the paint.net window and open as a new file. The items.png file is located in the gui folder of any custom textures/original textures of Minecraft. Make sure you unpack the items.png (make sure you don't have them in a .zip or .rar file when trying to edit with Paint.Net, IT WONT WORK) into a folder. Now get the items_overlay.png from the mod Cheeseyx has provided and drag it to the Paint.Net window. Click the button "Add as layer" or something similar to that.
Now go to file > save as > items.png (change the extension at the bar below the file name input box), hit ok and then flatten layers if that popup shows.
Now drag into the minecraft.jar gui folder, or your custom texture pack folder. credit to assassains4hire for the detailed instructions
To install it, first drag the modloader files into the minecraft.jar, then drag the files other than items_overlay.png into the minecraft.jar. Then put the items_overlay.png over the items.png in the \gui\, like as a new layer (using a program like photoshop, gimp, or paint.net. MS Paint will not work for this.). Finally, delete your meta-inf folder. Run minecraft, and it should work. (Note: you need to put the items_overlay.png over all items.png files in your texture packs to make the hookshot visible on those textures).
You must play from the downloadable file; no mods work when you are playing in browsered mode.
oh man i have no idea what to do with the mod loader and the mod files to install this. i need to know so i can install this right away!
edit: ok, so i got the things OPEN but i need to know exactly what to do with them. i stick all the files and the image called 'particles' into the main .jar file, then i take the item overlay image and stick it onto the item file in the gui?

I put instructions in the first post, so if you follow those it should work, but I think what happened was you forgot to delete your meta-inf folder.
Hey Cheesy, I'm making a video of your wonderful little toy, but maybe you should call it a hookshot instead? there's another guy here making a grappling hook which allows you climb up and down stuff, it'd be better seeing as your mod IS a hookshot after all

Also holy **** this thing has a kick to it.
Yeah, I was trying to fix that, but gave up and decided to release it.

I didn't read the whole thing so I missed the photoshop part, and now the icon is invisible XD
Also,
This is really fun when using it on ice.
Just need a Megaton Hammer so I can chase and smash cuckoos with it XD
I love you.
