I have, for some time, thought that the surface world could be smoother to navigate. Beaches especially.
I am requesting a mod that makes Sand (and Gravel) create a 2 block pool around itself, along parallel ground. Sand would not create a pool if placed high up. This is designed to make beaches easier to navigate, as well as more aesthetically pleasing. This would be like applying fluidity to sand, but without the flowing current. Just a kind of... slouching pooling effect around sand blocks. Although Sand Pools visually obscure the blocks below them, and are a surface you can walk on, you could still dig blocks out from under them.
This is a demonstration of what I have in mind. Done in Google Sketchup.
See how sand only pools onto parallel surfaces, not over the edges of other blocks.
Would this be even remotely possible, and is there anyone interested in a minor aesthetic mod like this?
Personally, every day I stroll along my blocky beaches, I groan a little.
I'd like to add a small request of my own to this. One thing that doesn't make sense to me is when you can create towers of dirt, sand, or cobblestone. I believe that if you ever stack dirt or sand on top of another block and it has block that is at least one level below it to any of it's eight adjacent squares I believe it should fall down.

No. I'm not really requesting this for extensive realism, so much as the aesthetic hint of realism. Plus I like building with Sand and Gravel. They make good building frames, because they collapse from the bottom.
The way I've suggested now, this is designed to create gradual slopes on beaches and dunes that are smooth to walk over.
On another note, how did you create the sketch you posted above? Did you use a 3D program? I'd love to create such sketches myself and I'd like to know how you created yours.
Though I wouldn't want it to be a feature in the full game, I'd love to have it as a mod.

I used Google Sketchup. It's a program designed for prototype mock ups. It's super easy to learn if you watch the tutorial videos.

This would be amazing!
You could do this with dirt, as well.
Create natural looking hills.
I would download a mod like this ASAP if it were to be made.
Is shooting bullets just not cool enough for you? Get a Maliwan and light some people on fire!
I support this mod.
Laterz.
