I agree, it's extremely imbalanced. A few here and there seem fair to me, but most of them seem ridiculous and don't make any sense. You have a nice idea, you just really need to balance it out though.
Is there anyway you could release the mod with just the gravel to flint recipe? There's a craftable flint mod with that exact recipe that hasn't been updated for Halloween, and I'd love to have that again.
Ofc, sand is easier to find since it is always at surface level.
What you could do is:
Iron is worth 2 coal, so that would increase the cost to 17 coal. However, even then, it is less than the 50 coal diamond value.
diamond=~25 iron, I have a better recipe:
=redstone dust(and never forget that you find a red ore, you find 4 dust
=iron block=18 iron bar
for "prices", this worth 5.5+2*18+1+20 >>50
It means "With the power of Redstone dust standing for electric and gold for sun(myth metal uh?), using the structure of iron block, and sand taking the power of ocean, we successful turn the Carbonium in coal into DIAMOND!!!!"
this would be funny
btw, this recipe "worth more" than a diamond itself 'cause it can be used for diamond shortage of certain times
however it's rather HARD, I admit it :tongue.gif:
This mod needs HEAVY balancing.
A few that I particularly found game breaking produce:
diamond, obsidian, gunpowder, clay ball, gold, iron, and lava bucket.
ALL of the dirt into plant recipies as well.
Diamond just plain needs to be harder to produce. Something with a bucket of lava, coal, and maybe some pieces of obsidian.
Maybe along this line:
With lava, of course, being a bucket of lava.
And even then, this should produce instead of :Diamond:. Maybe requiring a trip to the :Furnace:? This would also mean that you'd need to find diamonds first before you can make more.
The obsidian formula needs work. There should be something, but I dunno what. Definitely not 5 pieces of flint though. Personally I wouldn't bother with implementing it.
Gunpowder and clay ball, those formulas should only make 1 piece, not 8 or 16.
Alternately, require a bucket of water for the clay ball formula, and maybe only produce 4 or 8?
Gold and Iron formulas... Just kill them. Kill them with fire. Forget they were ever created.
Lava bucket... This takes more resources to produce one bucket of lava than taking the 3 iron to make a bucket and going to find the lava. So I suppose it's more fair than the others...
The dirt recipies should be reduced to 1 of the result, or removed entirely.
In quick response to the constructive replies to my mod...
This was a first attempt at a mod, and I got things working, without worrying about balance to begin with to see where this idea got me.
I do agree that it is imbalanced, but the point I was trying to resolve, is that to harvest obsidian, you need a diamond pickaxe.
To make a diamond pickaxe you need 3 diamonds.
To even have the chance of finding diamond you need to dig down to the depths of the earth, and HOPE to be lucky enough to come across any diamond at all (maybe i'm just unlucky, but i think diamond is a bit too hard to come across, as with iron - gold is useless so i don't mind it being so rare)
My intention with this mod was to provide alternate means of getting some of the blocks and items that are useful in crafting things.
I will re-look at some of the suggestions here, and probably make some adjustments to the recepies to balance it out more ( I like the idea of adding solid stone to the coal to make the diamond for example)
As to the people who would rather just use InvEdit to get their stuff, I used to do that, and this feels like a step in-between where you can still have easier access to all the features of the game, without so blatantly cheating.
I can't get the mod to work :sad.gif: Is ModLoader 1.11 the one that works with Alpha 1.2.1_01? Because as soon as I install ModLoader 1.11 and try to load a world, Minecraft pukes and dies. I get to the splash screen just fine, it just dies on trying to load a world. I didn't find any versions of ModLoader higher than 1.11.
Also, does this mod work with ANY version of ModLoader, or a particular version?
And I just realized this is a four-day bump. Not a necrobump fortunately, but oh well.
