Wouldn't the ability to harvest leaves be the best part of this mod? I mean you could make awesome trees and tree houses with leaf and tree trunk blocks. Just the ability to make huge trees is nice. I'm not really interested in the apples and sticks. I would like to see a version where the leaf drops are higher. Will use this mod to make giant trees easily. Thanks op, nice work.
Even if I felt like making the leaves drop more often, they're going to be either around 90-95% or 40-45%, leaving 5-10% in either case for Saplings. The way the RNG function is set up, it takes a single integer and returns a hit or a miss. If you put in 5, you'll end up with 1:5 odds to hit the next "step."
Unfortunately, with it only allowing integers, the first drop rate is 100% (1:1 odds), followed by 50% (1:2 odds). There's the possibility of allowing the leaf blocks of dropping a leaf block, as well as a sapling, to increase the chances of dropping the leaf block, but I feel like 100% is waaaayyy too much for such a fragile material. I know it's silly to think that way, but... still.
EDIT My plan failed :\ Still don't know a way around this problem. Would take some effort to actually learn some java, which I'm not up to tonight! Maybe later...
If all else fails, and I get more requests, I'll just do something like a 100% leaf mod maybe :-s
Leaf blocks would be a big improvement in single survival player. I am a big builder and have a huge base. Around my base is a lot of tall trees that i have grown. I love the tall bushy trees. They look very cool. Growing them is kind of a pain in the ass though. With this mod you could easily create huge leafy trees. To be able to set leaf blocks on tree trunks would be fantastic. I would have more tall trees around my base if they weren't a pain to grow. I like this mod. I will be using it for my trees. I have to agree with Joker, sticks and apples don't interest me. I can make sticks all day long, and i have other food sources. What i don't have is the ability to place leaf blocks. Will download and try it out. I'm betting creating huge trees will be an easy thing to do now. Getting the drop rate higher for leaf blocks would be nice but i will take what i can get. Thanks for the mod. Good job!
Alright everyone! Looks like I caved again and added a fourth freaking version of this mod xD Minimal build = 90% leaves and 10% saplings.
I lied earlier, I believe. It's -not- so easy to add, say, both a leaf block and a sapling dropping at the same time. Oh well. On top of that, I think someone beat me to my lottery-esque mod! xD It's for SMP, rather than SSP, but it looks like it's a lot more involved than what I could've made it, anyhow! So I'm scrapping the idea for now.
Also... a request for Bookshelves, Glass, etc? Hmm. Some extra stuff landed on my plate today, but I'll give it a look! If I can figure it out, I'll add it as a compilation mod. Maybe call it "Equivalent Exchange"? ;3 I think it'd be nice to have Bookshelves, Glass, Steps and Boats drop as their own items, instead of nothing or fewer pieces.
While I'm on that topic, does anyone know of other materials that don't break down "normally"?
Fullmetal Alchemist much? Lolz, watched the entire original set, awsome show.
Other things that don't break down normally:
Storage carts break into chests
Powered carts break into furnaces
Wooden plates just dissapear
Stone plates just dissapear
Dropping tree leaves is a GREAT idea. Usually, when I'm hollowing out a big tree for a house/outpost, if I accidentally an exterior leaf block, I plug it with a log. Which is okay I guess, but it'd look nicer with tree leaves as the exterior.
And I'm glad I can get my apples again, because on Saturday, just an hour into playing the Halloween Update, Youtube caused my computer to bluescreen, and I had Minecraft open at the time, and when I came back to the save file entire strips of chunks, including my base and all my diamonds!!! had been wiped from existence. The chest with 18 Golden Apples and 90 regular apples was on the edge of an adjacent, not-reformatted chunk, but I was still devastated and ragequitted to a new save file. Now I can stockpile apples on a new, biome-compliant world.

Aha. You caught me! FMA fan here as well, finished watching Brotherhood not -too- long ago! :3
Erm, anyway. I've been able to pick up Wooden Plates and Stone Plates, I'm pretty sure! At least, I'm 90% positive I can use a pickaxe on a -Stone- Plate and pick it up! If the Wooden Plates don't come back by hand, maybe it takes an axe? :-s
I don't use minecarts hardly at all... to be honest. And unfortunately, I'm not sure Storage and Powered carts can return more than one type of item back :\ When I've looked at how things drop, it's a single return value of an ID...

I love making treehouses, too! I ran into a similar situation with log-plugging before I made this mod :3 Glad you enjoy it. Also..! Sorry to hear about your world troubles! >.< I try to back mine up every so often... I've never lost anything, but I'll regret the day that I stop backing my saves up, I'm sure! xD
Also, I have an idea for what I hope is a more original mod! However, I'd like to ask you guys a couple of questions. I thought about asking in the SSP forums, but it seems a little crazy over there ><
What kind of materials do you consider "useless", and why? Also, what do you guys -do- with them? Burn them in lava? Stuff them in chests? Build random, nonsensical junk? Your answers might influence what I do with my next mod, but I'm keeping it secret till later ;3
For me there is no useless material. I use everything. In fact more blocks would be great. =)
Nice! Downloading now. Thanks a lot. Good work. You sir can have one of my diamonds.
Rawr! :happy.gif: Om-nom diamonds. I'm enjoying the praise lately, but I don't feel like I'm doing very much, haha! Unfortunately I can only pop on once in a while to check messages for now... But later tonight, hopefully I can start working on another small mod.
I know there have been requests for a Bookshelf fix update and such... I may give that a look.
However, I was flipping through some threads and noticed someone added a bunch of new "transmutation" recipes. Some of them are a bit... "easy" :\ It kind of inspired me to add my own to the game, via Mod Loader.
I'd mostly be writing the mod for myself, though! I can upload it when finished, with details for discussion. I don't know if new recipe mods are very popular, anyway!
Some examples...
[] []
= Water Bucket, where = Snow blocks!
[] [] (could also just use an empty bucket as well)
[] []
= Lava Bucket, where = Bloodstone!
[] [] (help, what would "melt" easily into molten liquids under eternally burning flames? xD)
[] []
= Red Mushroom, for those like me who rarely find any!
[] [] (could use yellow flowers instead for brown mushrooms~)
I have ideas for cactus, grass blocks, saplings, reeds, and coal/diamond ore blocks.
Is anyone actually interested in recipes like these? It's more for my convenience, but I'll upload them (after I'm done writing them!) if people want them.

._. This too. I was looking at the transmutation mod, but some of the recipes were gamebreakingly easy. Especially Coal --> Diamond. A potential "Disk One Nuke" if I ever saw one. I'd love to see both of those mods if you could make them. :happy.gif:
I wouldn't bother with any new recipe mods since someone has made a mod where people can set up their own recipe "sets".

I'm not doubting that someone may have come up with this... but --- *edit as he's typing* o.o Oh. I see. Posted today, in fact. Ahaha... cool >.< Alright, I may as well not post any of my own recipe mod work, then. Although, I'm still going to (in the process of) code it for myself, by hand! I might look at tanzanite's mod later. I see he also has an apple tree mod packed with it xD Meh.
I appreciate the info, Creeper :3

Yeah... I like having alternate sources sometimes, but... my own ideas for Diamond, for example, included Bloodstone and and Lava Bucket, among other things. More than likely the person playing with the recipe mod would already have diamonds if they have a portal to Hell! I actually made mine without it, though... As I had only found a single diamond so far on that save xD
Also, it's nice to have recipes things you can't normally have, or rare items. In the dozens of save files I've played, I've seen a handful of mushrooms... and maybe only two of those were red ones! Moreso than that, if you want to create an underground grassy area, you either have to dig up a bunch of stone and plant a long line of dirt, hoping it eventually grows all the way down, or just inv-edit a grass block xD I think dirt + seeds should make a decent recipe for grass. Other things like cactus and reed can potentially dismiss adventuring altogether, but it's a nice option if you're unlucky. I also thought about recrafting coal/diamond ore. I doubt many would use it as decoration, but you never know ;3
I suppose I should get started researching the block drop fixes instead, though. o.o *such a lazy bum*
No, actually I've added something new to the OP! Equivalent Exchange v0.2 is out :3 It fixes Bookshelves -and- Glass!
I was also working on fixing smooth stone steps (single and double drops), wooden steps and cobblestone steps... however! It's not as easy as it looks T_T grawr. I'll look it over again, but no promises!
I don't think I can do much about Storage Carts or Fueled Carts, as I've mentioned before.
Also, I've studied the behaviors of Stone/Wooden Panels. They both are breakable into Panels again, as long as you use a pickaxe! I dunno why a normal axe doesn't work on the -wood- panel, but... oh well. I won't bother to fix these at all, in case you wanted an easier way to get them back, sorry! It's simple enough as-is!
I'm in a bit of a hurry, so I'm probably forgetting a few things o.o Oh well. Leave comments please! I'm pretty sure this newest mod works fine, without crashes, but I've only tested it a couple of times :\ So please back up your important saves first, if you're worried!
You can do it. I'd like being able to get my stairs back, and 2 half steps in case of framerate jerking.
I'll have to study it more :\ It looks like it's hardcoded to only return -one- block when you destroy one. I can see if I can make double half-steps turn into a block of double half-steps, but that may be the best I can do :sad.gif: I've actually made it happen so far, but it also causes a single half-step to turn into a double xD
Wooden/Cobblestone's ... different, entirely. I still haven't quite figured out which return statement returns the materials. I think I can probably work this one out easier than the half-steps, but it'll take some time ;3

Both of these are going on my must-have mod list. Thanks!
Thanks to you, as well! I'm glad I can give something back for once, after eating up so many mods before the Halloween update! The praise only keeps me coming back to this thread more* often, haha xD
Hey I was wondering, since you basically redid the apple drops mod, could you also redo the bookshelf fix too?
And while your at it, if you do make a 100% leaf block mod, could you also make one for glass?
Thanks if you do, thanks anyway if you at least read this.
