This texture pack is now compatible with the Halloween update, but the new block types are untouched at the moment (aside from scaling).
Fueled by the sight of noisy Notch-art, I took it upon myself to re-draw most of the textures to make things somewhat more visually appealing. And while I'm not particularly satisfied with the results, they seem presentable enough as-is. Feel free to use them if you wish, or to tell me why you didn't if you don't. Suggestions are welcome.
All pre-Halloween terrain textures are complete. I'll get to those when some time clears up (working on a personal game project at the moment).
I recommend installing the HD texture fix with this so that water and fire animations do not break.
I like this. It's got some issues, but I like it anyway.
First and foremost, it's actual original art, and that's a huge point in its favor. I've grown weary of texture packs of resized google images.
All the individual pieces-- torch, workbench, chests, etc.-- are great. The planks are nice. The grass is.... interesting. I like that you've made it into oversized, stylized blades rather than trying for some sort of realistic look that's almost certainly going to fail when it's applied to the perfectly flat sides of perfect cubes. But it has a few minor tiling issues and the yellowish highlights produce an eye-bending shimmer. I think toned down a bit and with a bit better tiling, it'd be a winner. The dirt's almost really nice, but I just don't care for the orangish tone. That could just be personal preference. I'm not sure about the smooth stone. I'll have to live with it a while and see. It's not a bad texture-- it's just not smooth enough. Since I like the texture well enough, I might come to accept that it's not as smooth as I seem to think I'd prefer. The cobble's the same way-- I like the texture well enough, though it's not quite what I think I'd expect, so I'll have to live with it a while and see what I think later. And actually the leaves are that way too, now that I start thinking about it. I didn't initially expect the cluster of leaves in the center of the tile to work, but they actually resolve into a nice enough tree shape from a distance.
I think this is one of the more impressive packs I've seen in a while. Thanks.
Thanks to everyone for the kind words. (:
The suggestions are very helpful as well, and will be considered.
So I'll be updating this some time after a new HD texture patch is available, as there isn't much point in doing so at present (without the patch, the Nether turns (strangely) into a flowing, watery mess, and the portal animation is blanked).
Lastly, the new leaf / grass colorization system has me a bit worried -- it chooses such boring color ramps! I had instead hoped for separate, biome-specific textures that could be differentiated through more than merely hue (like pine needles in a mountain forest). In addition, the lack of colorization on grass overhangs looks rather awkward. Hope this gets fixed soon.
Don't know how I missed this.. your textures are second only to doku's IMO, and even then it's a toss-up in a few places! Will be watching this space :>
I've updated with preliminary Halloween update support. It's a temporary fix and is purely for compatibility, so the new tiles are scaled up originals.
The grass and leaf recoloring looks kind of odd, but not much can be done about that without making some places look good, while others relatively poor. This can hopefully be minimized with some tweaking.
And I'll get back to work on this again when some time clears up, because I'm entrenched in a personal game project at the moment.
this pack looks great shiny. Its got a unique feel to it. I will be looking forward to see what you do with the hell textures. As for the biome colouring, other than the side of the grass, I think someone posted recently on how it works behind the scenes, which might give an idea of how to get your great colouring back with a bit of tweaking in the old gradient :smile.gif: a for your original and new pack sir, your a great pixel artist.
this pack i would liken to the works of doku and johnsmith, but all three have great appeal.
oh and my one idea would be not to make the pumpkin a pumpkin, but more a lamp, or lantern or something even cooler. just an idea.

I dig straight down.
