Actually I will because I won't people to stop bitching about their crap upload services. just open Options, go to "Buy Storage" and enter these in to redeem your free gigs. as you can see they last for a year... so get it and quit bitching plz.
Please upload class files of BetterLight that I can copy and paste into my Minecraft.jar. This patcher thing is annoying to use.
No. Its already been explained thats illegal and we cannot distribute files the Notch owns.
Either you're a troll or you did not understand what I was asking. I am asking for the modified class files that make BetterLight work. The Patcher this is stupid, since the majority of the mods out there just upload their modded class files. By your logic, all mods are illegal, which they are not.

Actually, yes, ALL (most) MODS ARE ILLEGAL!!!... technically. As ALL (most) mods use some sort of modified "Copyrighted" or "Commercial" code. if the modder used a decompiler it's illegal.

I guess you also boycott the texture fix, then?
And yeah, distributing the modified code/class files is technically illegal, and MrMessiah (and Notch) doesn't want his mod to be distributed in that fashion. It's his choice, so get over it and stop complaining.

The patcher can't patch the file, as it's already been patched by a previous version of the mod. You just need to redownload minecraft.jar (delete the 'bin' folder) or restore from a backup from before you installed the mod. :smile.gif:

Good to see that you got around to smoothing the shadows
I can't remember if it's what I was asking about before but it looks really really nice
if only we could have moving shadows with sunlight now, In theory would that even be possible based on the lighting engine that notch has though?
it looks as though the game casts shadows directly downloads for day time, however light sources act more omni directional so I assume that it'd be possible to have the game work out based on the position of the sun in the sky using some basic trigonometry if a block would be lit or not if the current code was re-worked, i'd try it out myself but I actually don't have any experience in java :/
edit: Actually I thought of another way to do it
seeing as the sun in minecraft just moves across the sky perfectly along the center you could just get the position of a shadow block, then using a timer of some kind shade a certain amount of blocks next to it in either direction, once again I don't know if this would be possible but this would be a cheap way to simulate day lighting if i'm not mistaken, it'd be a bit dodgy and wouldn't make much room for say having a shaft of light that moves across the ground from a window in a roof for example but I imagine if this technique was used then you could also fake the latter some how

Contrary to popular belief, Notch not liking something doesn't make it illegal. There *could* be a copyright infringement, or there *could* be a breach of license terms, but neither of those is what people understand as "illegal", and until it is tested in court, with a judgment in favour of Notch, it isn't illegal. Not going to happen. Notch has more sense than to start suing players for increasing the popularity of his game, for free!

What you can do:
If you've bought the game, you may play around with it and modify it. I'd appreciate it if you didn't use this for griefing, though, and remember not to distribute the changes.
Any tools you write for the game from scratch belong to you.
You're free to do whatever you want with screenshots and videos of the game, but don't just rip art resources and pass them around.
Plugins for the game also belong to you and you can do whatever you want with them, including selling them for money.
That Notch hasn't done anything to hinder the modding community so far implies at least acceptance of it on his part. His license terms make exceptions for digging around in the code, and your post makes me think you've never even read it. The bit about using a decompiler making modding illegal is just silly.
TL;DR: Notch may not like it too much, but that doesn't make it illegal, and it's up to him to hurry up and provide a proper modding API, if he wants to change the status quo.
Whoah, this is awesome. I was only complaining before because I couldn't get it to work. (The readme file sucks, to be honest.) But now that I got it to work, this is cool.

Your logic is heavily flawed. You are telling me that the ACT of infringing copyrighted material is legal. No, that is not the case. The person accused is innocent until otherwise proven guilty but the act of distributing any or all copyrighted material (modified or otherwise) is. As stated by notch:
The one major rule: Do not distribute anything I've made. This includes the client and the server software for the game.
This also includes modified versions of anything I've made.
What you can do:
If you've bought the game, you may play around with it and modify it. I'd appreciate it if you didn't use this for griefing, though, and remember not to distribute the changes.
In short you can do whatever you want to do as long as you do not distribute any or all of the original and or modified code. Because it *is* copyright infringement and *is* a breach in the EULA. Having said that I think that notch will most likely code either a script engine or a mod loader; as such, those mods will be exempt for they will be considered "Plugins" and will contain no original code.
After sleeping on it, I think I have a couple of good ways of improving performance. One is fairly easy to implement and should improve the lag you get when chunks are loading, the other is a bit more involved but if it works should improve things a lot. Hopefully I can get it out by the next update to the game.
As a modder it's really heartening to come in and see people saying "well, this slows things down a lot so I'm going to skip it for now but I might come back to it later" rather than "wtf this sucks now". Diamonds for all.

"Is playing with a 128x texture set + HD Texture Fix + Better Light + Better Grass + other assorted mods"
I'll be surprised if Notch DOESN'T add the above three mods to the vanilla code.
Your logic is heavily flawed. You are telling me that the ACT of infringing copyrighted material is legal.
No, I'm telling you that until Notch claims someone is infringing his copyrighted material, and a court upholds that claim, no infringement has taken place.
In any case, this has been argued to death, and Notch hasn't taken any kind of action against anyone, so we should both stop hijacking this thread. It's completely irrelevant to MrMessiah's mods since he's changed to a patcher anyway.
I'm running x64 Win 7 - I can't get any of these mods to work on both my home pc and my laptop. Both just give me a black screen (which will eventually turn white after a minute). I've tried everything suggested (deleting minecraft.jar, redownloading, repatching) and tried just installing one mod or another (like just better light, grass, in different combos). I'm not using any other mods.

Actually he has taken action in the past and basically made people take there mods down until they made it so the mod patches the existing files already on your harddrive instead of distributing them. This happend over a month ago.

WOW! the better lighting is incredible, i have been using ambient occlusion since it was release but this new lighting is just soo damn pretty! the one thing i did not like was the blocky lighting this is great thanks!
