Here's my problem: I put everything in the minecraft folder and when I try to run it, checking only BetterLight, I get this:

BetterLight absolutely destroys my FPS. I've tried it on two computers. Removing it improves my FPS greatly. I didn't have this problem with Ambient Occlusion. Anyone else have this problem?
After extracting the files to .minecraft, and attempting to run the .jar file, it opens a command prompt that scrolls around really quickly and closes. Although it doesn't actually patch it. There's no run option on the jar and when I open with java it does the command prompt thing.
So I followed all the instructions, placing the patcher and the folder in the minecraft folder on my Mac. But when i run the patcher it gives me this:
java.io.FileNotFoundException: /Users/Walt/Library/Application Support/minecraft/bin/minecraft

I tried it on a fresh jar and the patch went smoothly. Mod is awesome, landscapes are gorgeous, as well as interiors. There's one small thing I noticed though. If you place lightstone (haven't checked with torches yet) beside water, the lighting is smooth on the shore, and blocky in the water. This isn't a complaint, just a minor bug report. Hope it helps.
I really think if there were a mod of the year, this should be it. It is just the best.

1.5 - Ambient Occlusion is now known as BetterLight, which is basically a complete rewrite of AO but now incorporating light smoothing. Plus side: should be less buggy, hopefully, maybe. Looks nicer. Minus side: currently BetterGrass requires it in order to run. Still, shiny things!

BetterGrass requires BetterLight in order to run, BetterLight does not require BetterGrass in order to run. It's even in the patcher.
Good god, if you're going to be an ass, do it right.

Hey Mr.M, the better lighting rewrite looks amazing! I do find the shadowing to be a little too dark with some non-default texture packs, however. Is there any chance of having a setting to adjust the darkness of the AO effect in the future?
Minus side: currently BetterGrass requires it in order to run.
Oh, so that's what's going on, I thought something went wrong on the installation.
When can we get BetterGrass working properly? I'm kinda bothered by the way it looks with BetterLight, doesn't really look like Minecraft anymore.

My minecraft.jar is a folder with .jar appended to the name. It makes it easier to install mods (and works the same functionally), but the patcher does not recognize it because it technically isn't compressed.
Any help?

Why does the performance drop while exploring?
Agreed, this combined with ELD's Texture pack makes Minecraft look awesome.

Lovin' the Bettermods, btw =)
I keep getting the error "Could not find the main class C:/"etc etc" The program Will exit.
The patcher is in the right location along with the mod folder. I tried deleting the bin folder but to no avail.
Any suggestions? It's probably something simple I'm missing.

Is there a way to manually install these mods?
You SHOULD be able to go back to minecraft.jar, patch it, THEN re-extract it back out to a folder basis.
