The grass is gorgeous. Just the perfect combination of detail and blending, so it actually looks like grass up close but doesn't resolve into a rug pattern from a distance. It's just beautiful. I love the new iron block texture. And the reeds and the jukebox are both very nice. Yeah-- the jukebox is far too modern to seem to match those chests, but I just consider it eclectic. It is beautifully rendered, and that's what counts as far as I'm concerned.
The only thing I see that I think still needs work is the torch and maybe the top of the half step. Even that might be okay after I've lived with it for a while-- it just seems too harshly white right now. I'm still not entirely sold on the sand, but I'm living with it. I really like the texture up close-- enough that I mostly manage to just accept the patterning from a distance. And the rest is going to come down to personal preference things-- I know some people want grayer rock-- I like the brownish rock myself. I did a browner recolor of your dirt on the first one though, and have just transferred it to each successive one, just because I don't care for the orangey tone. But again, those are just personal preference sort of things-- they're not things that seem like they need to be changed. I would think that if you included a few color variations of a few of those things with the finished pack, that'd cover pretty much anyone's misgivings.
That is caused because you saved the image on mediafire. That picture is only a display. and will cause issues if you installed it into your game. To download it, there's a button under the image that will get you the real download.
@hiddenwatt- Thanks for the feedback. I'll work on it.
I've been watching this one and have liked where you have been going with it. The one thing that rubs me the wrong way is the obsidian... It's a bit dark and bland... obsidian isn't just one mineral...
While I agree that purple is capable of obsidian depsoits, it's extremely rare. I would stay away from any purple with the obsidian.
Some contrasting lines would do it justice... Some of the most spectactular obsidian i've seen looks like this.
been following your texture pack for a while now, i absolutely love it, tho like many others im not a fan of the white halfstone with the weird textures on the side, honestly i love the brown and bloom style half stone, but need it in HD to match your pack, only other critique, the wood texture, ive been making large ships out of wood on my server and well, the wood looks... weird, on such a large scale it basically just looks stripey... any chance of a more paneled kinda look?
Best texture pack I've seen, been following it since pre-furnaces (so not that long) but I've done my due diligence and testing so many of them and they don't pale in comparison.
I think the smoothstone and cobblestone are fine. Haven't seen brick but having it red would be ideal I agree.
Any advice on how to blend the item pack you use (or any other item pack for that matter), or even a moon texture as I've tried, with use of the terrain patching? I've patched the items, then patched the terrain...didn't work.
Keep up the great work, ty. :biggrin.gif:
Edit: Noticed strange shadows (glitch?) on objects fallen on the ground. Presents a series are circular shadow shapes on the tile beneath the fallen object. Not sure how to take in-game SS's to show you, would gladly show you what I mean if anyone explains it. Thanks.
After reading the replies to the Beta, one thing becomes clear to me ... you can't please everyone, which is a valuable conclusion for my own efforts aswell ... some like it hot some like it cold, some like it brown and other like it grey, some like high detail and live with 'paterns' others dislike anything that causes paterns ... and so on ... and on ...
Soo, to Soulscribe i would recommend to make alternative tiles instead of trying to please everyone in 'one' pack ... that way people can pick and choose themselves ...
I have been planning to release alternate tiles since the beginning. I know I can't make things to everyone likings in just go. I'm just revising things I agree with people with that should be revised. Things like mine tracks, lava, etc, that I, myself, believe could be done better. Of course I like my pack by the way, otherwise I wouldn't have the motivation to carry it this far.
Ok then after using it for a bit here are my thoughts:
Lets get the bad out of the way first; (Hope this doesn't come accross rude or anything its just my honest opinions, I'm not the one doing all the hard work you are so I understand that this may seem 'empty' coming from me)
Smoothstone is way too brown, it looks noting like smoothstone, same with cobblestone (too brown)
Mud isn't brown enough it reminds me too much of sand
I think I miss brick being red, the world just all seems too boring with everything becoming browns and creams.
Lava looks terrible, sorry to say, I really dont like it. I know it looks more like what lava would on the surface but it just doesn't come accross very well.
Grass looks boring or too plain, same with water.
All colour seems drained from the world
I dont really like obsidian, maybe add some purple specs or something?
Sand looks way too plain
Now to end on the good things;
The gold, iron and platinum blocks look great, seriously I love them.
Bookcases, workbenches, workbenches and boxes look amazing.
All plants look pefect, best looking plants I've seen in any texture pack.
Tree bark (unrefined wood) is really detailed and looks great by itself however while on the tree it looks to detailed for the leaves.
Cd player/stereo things look just wow.
I really like the ores (well ones I've seen, havent found diamond yet)
Ladders look alot better
The redstone trail thing looks really good.
That was everything that sprung to mind just from walking around, I will probably have more later after exploring for a bit.
But seriously it needs more colour, all you have now is brown and creams.
P.S I really wish I could take my favorite textures from this and mix them with my favorite textures from my texture I was using, but I dont think there is a way seeing as your texture is so large. If anyone knows a way I would love to hear it.
All in all I am still looking forward to the final product.
EDIT: Again I hope none of this came across as overly rude.
Beside my bug. Everything looks really natural, fit in its place. Very well made. :smile.gif:
You did download it from mediafire and not just right click and save right? May seem stupid but I know I've done it before.
Um, I don't remember what it is but it is a program (In the Mapping and Modding section) that lets you put in multiple textures and mods. You can choose the block (say, you put in 3 T.P's and you liked glass from one, torches from the other but brick from the last.) and mix the packs together. I almost got it. (I love dokus pack but hate the glass.) but i didn't.
