My suggestion for the ores is to go look at some pictures of the real ores. You should be able to do proper coal seams in a texture that large and I think banded iron (goggle it) would look great in high def. Gold is the only one that actually looks something like that in reality. Diamonds might be a little hard to make visible though as rough diamonds are a bit plain so a bit of artistic license might be called for there.

Tis far better to be a witty fool than a foolish wit.
Using 128 tilesets might slow down the framerate. I feel a slight lag when running it. But there's nothing too bad about it. Thanks for the Input. I'm reworking the ores as we speak.
Update:
Tree leaves are done. I also did a little revision on the ores. I remade the iron completely to banded iron (thanks fool76) as well as change the looks of the diamonds.
Edit: I'd like to know what kind of wood people prefer to see in this pack. Example:
The ore seems tacked on, tbh.
I think it'd look cooler if rather than it sticking out like it seems to be now, it was properly embedded.
Something to do with the current shading, methinks.
Yeah I'm having a pretty tough time manipulating ores from thin air. Can't say I didn't try though(and I'll keep trying until I get it right). :tongue.gif:

Just have some kind of disclaimer that it may slow your game down. I play on the super HD pack 256x256 and I don't notice anything, then again I have a very beefy machine. My friend has a weaker machine and notices it alot more.
Also, if you get a chance can you take a screenshot of something medium-far in distance. The reason is that right now I have an issue with the textures being to high of detail far away which gives it a bad jagged effect. Usually games have anisotropic filtering to fix this, but this game doesn't have anything like that.
To me the coal seems odd, with the entire rock being black, could you post some pics of it naturally in the environment so we can see how this looks in game? Also, I understand what you're doing with the iron, but could you post some screens of how it appears naturally? It might give a better perspective of how it looks in the environment.

Still looks rather odd. My suggestion would be to try and cover the edges abit so that it blends into the stone around it more. And personally I would make the background of the coal the same as normal stone, but it's still your texture pack so do it how you want it.

My God..
I noticed that the patcher supported 256x256 textures so I decided to paste a few stock textures in a grid.
Minecraft turned into a sideshow. (It also ate up 2.5gb RAM)
From left to right: 1/2 step. grass, smooth stone, Obsidian, dirt
From left to right: Gold ore, diamond ore, redstone
From left to right: lumber, cobble, gold ore
btw, I noticed Allot of familiar textures when browsing through that stock filter site (not in this thread). >.>

Are the textures in the screenshot what is making it a slideshow for you? If so let me try them, I am curious to see how my box handles them. I always want to recommend things to people but it is hard to judge how well they will work on normal boxes.
I'm currently using photoshop cs4 to create these images. And yes the canvas is huge but that's how big 128x128 tilesets will be. Here's a teaser and proof of what I've done so far.
I'll post more as I go, but for now here's all I got. Critique early so I can change it to the likings of others.
Edit: All textures make a seamless pattern so far.
Note that the textures still have to be put on a 1m^3 block, your cobblestone is going to look like pebbles and your wood is going to look like toothpicks.
I'd suggest more detailed individual stones and planks, rather than more stones and planks.

Meant as constructive criticism.
Cobblestone already got remodeled. I am soon to work on wood. I just need a group opinion on what color they prefer to see.
Yeah I think 128x128 is the balance of HD and performance. I think 256 causes textures to be hardly visible at a distance. Running 128 tile sets uses about 490-500 mb.
You guys are adding way too much into something so simple.
"less is more"
Your Ore blocks, which all should be different btw, are FILLED with ores. Which is quite distracting and ugly. Seeing as diamond is rare, you could possibly just make one thick slab of diamond inside the block. While Coal and Redstone could be cracks in the block, or something along those lines.
If you guys really want "HD" kinds of texture packs, why dont you look at REAL things?
There is this pretty cool website, called Google, that allows you to look up such things.
Also, think about why other texture packs are successful.
Why people use painterly, and Doku's.
The cobblestone (or at least the grey brick looking one) in lordemperors quote of soulscribe looks terrible.
As does the wood. (or are those bricks?)
Do some more research my friends, it will yield better progress.

Oak, imo.

I notice that the frame rate isn't a problem anymore (That might be me getting used to the pace).

Awesomeness. I will download if this becomes playable.
And, maple or pine.
