For those of us who prefer to think of East and West being where the sun rises and sets, and having a way to tell directions in caverns even near your spawn, this is useful. Just because you choose to believe that your spawn is the north pole doesn't make it correct. This is very useful, and by extension, not pointless...
I wanted to know if you could make the red Needle point north and the white one towards the spawn location.
You got it to work in v1.1.2_02? How did you get it to work? Did you put it in the /.minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar file? I can't get it to work... just goes to black screen and there is no META-INF file to delete...
I really want to get this mod working for me if anyone has any answers for me - thanx
The problem is that the mod pack for 1.2.0_02 isn't working perfectly yet. You can only decompile with the classes renamed and anything you make isn't compatible. Once they get a good decompile without renames working then more mods will probably get updated.
Ya, but when it comes to things like that I'm just tring to be helpful. What? Don't want to be directed towards Simple Map +? Which now has Ambient Occlusion. And you you use the overlay that I always add to the choices for overlays, one that has the compass directions on it, you would understand why I said that there are plenty other mods, so non chalontly, (just how do you spell that word?).

Well, to bad it hasn't been updated, I could use this when it gets fixed. Hope you get it worked out soon :smile.gif:

Finally! :tongue.gif: I've updated the first post with a new version. I decided to merge the 2 mods and make it configurable so you can chose which compass to use. You can also change the color of the needles now.
I've tried this a few times, once in conjunction with SimpleMap/AO, and once on its own. Delete the META-INF directory, replace the class file, run Minecraft, load a game...
Crash.
One time when I was in another window while Minecraft loaded, I did see that the game world had started rendering; any time I've been sitting in window, it goes directly to its crash report before I can do anything.

Thanks for posting the error report! The problem is right here: "Minecraft: Minecraft Alpha v1.2.1_01". It seems there was a new update shortly after I posted v1.0 (which was written for v1.2.0_02). I've updated the first post with a new version that's compatible with Minecraft v1.2.1_01.
Well, that was rather silly of me, wasn't it? I saw that you'd posted an updated version as of earlier today and didn't quite register that it might not have been compatible with the Minecraft version released today. My bad.
Will have to try it again after updating MC. I did get to try it with a slightly-older MC version, though, and it looks handy!
Is there any chance, though, that it could be made such that the spawn-point needle of the compass is drawn over the north-pointing one? Or, even better, that it could be configurable? The spawn point is the only one that'll move if the player walks in a straight line, and having it slip under the north needle can make it ever so slightly easier to lose track of exactly where it's pointing. Not a big deal, though, just curious.
I do stuff.
It does? How? I just tried it and it blackscreened. Yes, META-INF is gone.
what am i doing wrong? and if its not me whats the fix?
Edit: Does this mod need to be fixed for the Halloween update?

Veovis Muad'dib: Who said forum posts had to always contain content. It helps but it isn't necessary. Have fun.
now that would be useful where is that overlay?
