I had to stop working on this project due to a lack of time. For everyone who either wants to just take a look at what I've got so far, or even try using it for their own texturing work, here's everything you need. No explanation on how to get it into minecraft since I just haven't got time to write one, but I'm sure the community here would gladly help you out - or you can send me a PM if you struggle getting this to work properly.
After having played Minecraft for quite some time, multiple ideas for alternate texture packs came to my head. While I really like the realistic and RP reskins to be found here, I wanted to do something different - a texture pack that is consistent and makes sense while being strange and unnatural at the same time. A pack where you'd have to figure out what certain resource types are, but once you've figured out you knew how to use them. To cut it short - I started working on Aliencraft.
Basically, this turns Minecraft into a strange, but (hopefully) beautiful alien planet, mainly using blue-ish tones. Trees with energetic veins hidden deep under the bark, crystal leaves, blue stone and a purple, burnable material replacing coal, only to name a few blocks. Well, I guess you'd like to see some screenshots? Here we go.
A cave entrance at the beach. The darkness calls!
A staircase in a tower. Still working on the half-step texture.
A Close-Up of some trees and the hand-held fire starting tool (formerly known as flint and steel). Actually, it still is flint and steel; steel being the pocket lighter's outer hull and the red flint being the firestone at the inside.
Is that... a dungeon? Created a new map for taking some screenshots and accidentally stumbled upon this! Mossy cobble looks horrible right now, gonna rework it.
View from my balcony at night. Beautiful landscapes of green and blue.
Trunk piece, workbench and wooden planks (from left to right).
The purple ones are normal torches, the red ones should be obvious. I love my circular flowers :smile.gif:
Minecart.. errr, Sci-Fi hover tracks!
Monster trap. The floor is made out of my revamped obsidian.
Some ores, TNT and a monster spawner.
Redstone wires.
And finally... watch out for the chickenator!
I think I'm about halfway through now. I've got most of the block textures covered. I've recolored some of the mobs, but I plan on drawing more detailed custom textures later on. I've got about 10% of the items reskinned, there's quite some work to be invested there. I also plan on replacing all the paintings with custom ones, so I guess it's gonna take a little while. As soon as it is in a playable state, I would release a first version though. If someone even wants to give it a go, that is.
I know it's not a texture pack for everyone, or one to permanently replace the standard textures - it's more of a journey, turning the world you thought you knew so well into a strange, unknown place full of beauty and mystery.
This looks amazing! I was looking through looking at the pictures hoping there was a download and then i was dissapointed. :sad.gif: But I will definitely follow this and keep up the good work man! Also chickenator is pro.
Thanks for the great feedback, everyone! I won't call out any exact release date as I'm not quite sure how much time it will take to get everything to look tidy, but I'll work on it!

A nice lavander sea would be awesome with this maybe green acid for lava?
While this would be awesome, changing the water texture is only possible using textures of a higher resolution. This wouldn't be a problem per se, but it also stops the water and lava from being animated. Basically, I have to choose between animated standard fluids and unanimated custom fluids, and I decided to go for the first option.
I really do like this mod, nearly everything looks awesome. But could you change the colors of the grass a tad. It might look diffrent ingame, but as of now, I cant say I am very fond of it =)

Thanks! If you mean the really bright pixels on it, I've already changed them. They were supposed to be some sparkling flowers or something like the glowing dots in Avatar, but it didn't turn out too well. If you mean the color itself, I think it blends in nicely with the rest of the environment. Any palette suggestions?
It's not done yet. I will release a WIP pack as soon as the basic stuff is done - I don't want to release it with important stuff (like item retextures) missing. I'm currently tweaking the dirt and grass colors, too. I'll keep you updated!
Not yet, I regret. I'm working on it though; gotta upload a bunch of new screenshots soon.

Why didnt i notice this thread before i started making an alien map skin!?
oh well im sure theres room for both of us *loads shotgun*
Oh well... *primes grenade behind his back*... let's be friends!
Seriously, can't wait to see yours! There's plenty of room for different kinds of sci-fi, I'm sure our packs will both be unique! Think of StarWars and Avatar.
I'd just like to say that this is probably my most anticipated texture pack. For some reason, I like to think the game becomes more interesting (and almost more realistic) to think that you've somehow become stranded on an alien planet, using your wits and the scant alien resources to survive.
UPDATE:

Looks sort of like Metroid.
